View Full Version : Huge appetite for wheel bearings??

When I bought my Willy1 last year it drove perfectly, yet a week later a front wheel bearing went from running bob on to self destruction in the space of 40 miles..... and shagged out the diff bearing into the bargain :-(
So new bearings fitted all round as a precaution and a new box. Not 300 miles later and the vibrating rumbling starts again. What a surprise, front wheel bearings again!

Can anyone shed any light on why my Willy eats front wheel bearings for breakfast??

Camber? would think they would be strong enough to be honest.

tried genuine bearings?

Williams dont run camber so that wont be a cause for destruction

Try a different garage to fit them

As far as I can see all the suspension looks completely standard like the rest of the car.

However, that's interesting that camber is mentioned as I've always thought that the wheels do lean in more than on a normal car but thought that was normal for a Willy. What is the correct camber angle so I can get it checked?? Is it adjustable on the wishbones then? I cant check as the car is at the garage (a different one that fitted the last bearings tho)

I also don't believe it was genuine bearings that were fitted last time - is there much difference in quality and price between pattern bearings and genuine Renault?

Camber is non adjustable, unless you buy camber adjusting bolts.

OE - aftermarket quality does vary, even tho it shouldnt !

My advice would be to fit genuine ones.

Maybe it's got valver shocks on if it's running some camber?

You'd have serious camber with valver shocks, wouldn't you? lol

Is a possible though :)

This is what I would think. Maybe they have a YOP trainee doing it?
