View Full Version : Alloy refurbs and the practical issues thereof...

I will soon get my alloys refurbed, however, I am finding that in many cases I have to remove the wheel and send them off to get done, which is a pain.

For people like Pristine, do you seriously have to take of fthe damn alloys and send them off or what? It makes it just too impractical for me to consider as an option as I have no spare wheels/tyres and sending stuff all over the place is expensive!

from what i can make out yes its leave em your wheels for around 24hrs :(
it sounds like a right pain if i decide to get mine done i think i will put my car on bricks out side the workshop and sleep in the motor haha

The wheel specialist quoted me £420 for all 4 wheels with polished rims.

Bit pricey imho.

seems a bit steep - you should only really be paying £50-£60 a corner.

£420 is the cost of two brand new speedlines......

Lol yes, that's what Justin said :)

If it was down the road, I'd go to titch, but Pristine said they'd pick it all up and do all the running about for me and I've heard so many good things from them I decided it was best for me.

Well Pristine rang this morning. Price increase to £371 inc VAT as one of the wheels is bent and they didn't include the caps in the previous quote, and they need a bit of de-curbing.

They say thanks to previous efforts of Willy owners they now use the exact Renault colour match. Have to wait and see.

Still, won't need to get them done again hopefully, and they will be back on the car on Friday!

LEIGH-ANNE
10-03-2009, 18:59
Hmmm u happy with that increase? Like u say u wont need em doing again....but think about how much more work u could have got done for £300 odd, for the sake of the car looking 'better'

Thats my problem i cant decide what to do first....

Wobba
10-03-2009, 19:27
Not happy no, but if it's a case of fixing the wheel it's got to be done. Surprised it wasn't picked up on when I had the tyres fitted not so long ago though...

Thing is, I am pretty much done in terms of mechanicals. The only work I would really like to do is a full engine rebuild, but it's not on the cards for at least another 6 months when I get a big payrise.

I've held off cosmetics till I had the rest done...and by God was there a fair old bit of work that needed doing!

Wobba
13-03-2009, 17:01
Not happy. Pristine messed me about. They told me twice my wheels would be here today (Friday) in time for my Pistonheads car meet on Sunday, so I waited at work all day for them to arrive and at the end of the day called them only to find they had not even sent them yet, despite the previous day being told they were being collected shortly. Wouldn't arrive till Monday.

So to get them to me in time I had to pay another £40.25 for Saturday delivery.

Feel a bit pissed to be honest.

Tomorrow morning now...and if they dont arrive I'll file a HMCS order for the delivery charges via Northampton County Court. Bit overkill, I know, but right now I am angry and dissapointed!

Wobba
13-03-2009, 18:02
Ahh, I probably wont, but I do get real pissed when people say one thing then do the other and don't bother telling you, especially when you've handed over over £370!

£411 is alot. Thats half the cost of a set brand new plus if you bought brand new ones you could sell your old set so the net cost of a new set would not have been much more.

I'm interested to see some pics from titchs mate as i still havent had mine done as i am lazy.

Wobba
14-03-2009, 16:16
3 wheels on, car lowered again, new non blowing painted exhaust on, decat on...just waxing to go on 3 wheels and then a good clean!

The ££ was painful, but I've allocated funds for this. I've sent a letter to Pristine saying I wasn't happy they repeatedly misinformed me about delivery time and I expressely told them I needed them sooner, but at least they arrived today!

I've received a reply about my alloys and my complaint.

They offered to do me a deal if I need them again or if any of my family need work etc, and reimburse the carriage fee's.

I did say they did an excellent job though, and he said they are very hard wheels to get done due to the lip and diamond cut. I am not surprised, but they set the car off juuuust right ;)
