Bled the PAS yesterday to see if that was what was causing the graunching noise when I set off. The squeel on full lock has gone, but the graunch noise is still there. I've noticed it does it even in the straight ahead position.

Anyone ideas what else it could be? It's when cold that it makes it.

It's my attempt at trying to spell a sound!

Describe it more?

Err. It sounds like two low gears rotating that aren't lubricated and in fact might be seizing a little.

Anyone?

I think next week's trip to Riverside could be expensive!

When you say a graunching noise, is it like the sound of creaking metal, when your turning in your car slowly?

Like sort of Grrrrraaaaaaawwwwch, (then stops when braking)?

It's just as you first start moving and then once you're above say 5mph it stops. Doesn't happen in reverse I've noticed.

Just worried that when the guy drove in to the side of me maybe he ever so slightly caught the n/s wheel and has knocked something.

No. Only when setting off from cold. Sounds like slightly seized/unlubricated gears

That's a possibility. It's all very strange. I hope it's not a g'box problem.

Where does it come from in the car? Or is it one of those noises that seems to drift around and come from everywhere?

Spot on. It sounds like it's coming from roughly exactly where the engine is, but underneath it.

Surely gearbox area that?

Exactly what I'm thinking. It had a new/reconditioned one at about 90k according to the receipts and it's now on 114k so it shouldn't be fooked.

What about drive shaft? Is there any leaking from the rubber at the gearbox end?

Fvck knows. I haven't had a look as it's always dark when I drive it. I suppose I should really.

old sas trick is to spray wd 40 on the belt whilst it is running... mine makes the same noise but i know what the noise is, im 90% certain its the pully bearings .... easily changable.

It's not long since had a belt and pulley change though!
