Im kinda unsure about it. Im possibly entering a design competiion for car design, wanted to know your thoughts on modern sporty car designs, the focus rs is a good starting point. Feel free to express any thoughts you may have, regarding detailing, message, materials, overall design. Im speaking just purely aesthetically here. Ill throw my own thoughts in later as im off to work again in a minute, but certainly I would start by saying Hot hatches seem to have less visual impact than they once did, and any that do stand out are down to gimmicks and vulgar styling e.g. latest evo.

hehe, 'modern hot hatch car design' - discuss.

Have you noticed all the revered performance cars, Audi Quattro, E30 M3, Clio Williams, Lancia Integrale to name the main ones ALL have major visual aspects hinting at their purpose: To kick ass.

Flared arches and widetrack ftw.

looking at those and a few others spring to mind [ford rs2000 zaxspeed capri's clio maxi etc] they all have a flat top the the rather square looking arches..

proper intent i think...modern cars are crap except the clio V6 which i think shows intent :D

Yea, they don't make em like they used to eh? Ahhh, the good 'ol days...

You're right about intent. Most cars nowadays look like they are trying to fit in with the anti-car lobby environmentalist PC status quo, too scared to scratch their own arses for fear of it contravening some new health and safety shit the Government try to wrap us up in...

Now, if I was designing a car, it would have flame-throwers on the back and a big taser gun and some other shit to make it look mean and arches the size of the Himalayas, not to mention the air intake for the 10 turbos that is fed 10 children a day for lubricant.

Ooooh yeaaa. Now were talkin'.

ill add more tomorrow coz its stupid o clock and im knackered. But i wud agree that safety and fear of being too radical has dumbed down the styling. Also it has to HINT at the performance, not shout about it or be cocky about it. Unless thats its thing. All saloons seem to look like passats nowdays and all small cars look like corsas. Keep the thoughts coming peeps........

If a focus rs can look something like this (with a roof) - it should sell a few cars.

Thought something looked familiar in that photo. That's my mate Craig's M3 Sport Evo, the 2.5 model. Great looking car. Here it is in action in a sprint we were contesting a few years ago...
