Does anyone know if this ECU has been chipped? And if it has what type of chip it is?

Hey Mat, unfortunately its all back together, as i needed it for work today, so i can't! Do you recognise what it might be?

Northy - u mean the standard reno chip is supposed to have a yellow protective coating on?!

Also, should you notice a difference when you unplug the ecu and put it back in again?! I noticed last night and today that it idles lower now, nearer 900 or just under, whereas before it was more like 1k? Is this normal?

Cheers

shouldnt be altering anything danny - give 2live a ring as he had a hill power chip in that did that

And yes - from the factory all chips were coated in yellow anti corrosion

looking at this pic you can just make out what looks like a chip carrier fitted below the chip

yeah....im pretty sure it is sat on a chip carrier Richy, but is there anyway of telling what chip it is or who did it?

Cheers

It is a chip as the original ECU doesnt have the window on it used by the old EEPROM erasers to clear the chip

So yes it is chipped!

You won't be able to tell who did it though, we used to have millions at my last place of work, they are just blank EEPROMS!

as said earlier mate.......thats deffo chipped tho. as northy says ...no anti-corrosion coating, and if it is on a carrier......well thats a deffo

if its a kill power chip, many ppl have had probs with em.

Cheers lads....just gonna leave it for now, see if i can get hold of an original to put in!

Shame you can't tell which firm chipped it! Does the gunner chip look the same as that?

Danny

That's a standard 256Kbit EPROM, cost about £3 from an electronics shop. Could be anything written onto it really, including a copy of the standard mapping.

Yes GunnerChip looks the same as its just a standard EEPROM, its the software on it that counts.

danny you can borrow my standard williams ecu whilst you send yours off to andy if you want??? im almost positive andy can put you a standard map on a chip for you, and if you already have a chip carrier soldered in then it wont even take a minute to swap em over, id advise on a gunner chip tho mate, much better than standard!

Iv just had one off Andy and its made a nice difference, Kj16v put it in for me as it was too fiddly for my solder iron.
Job well done, cost £66 in all and was well worth it 8) :D
