View Full Version : Steam from front of car

I have yet another coolant leak, my 4th in about 6 months.

When the car gets hot I notice when I come to a standstill there is sometimes steam from the front grill, even in dry conditions.

Radiator or hose you say. I would agree.

I cant see any leaking though. It could be evaporating, yes, or only pissing out a bit under pressure. The leak is not bad.

Anyone else had steam from the front of the car?

Me :D

It's coming from the crazy coolant hose, I've got a samco 1 but I just can't be arsed to change it as it looks like too much of a cunt to get to even more so if it's got the original hose clips on like all my other ones did

The weird annoying hose that goes all over the place?

Check for coolant stains anywhere to see if you can see where it's leaking under pressure.

Check the radiator bleed valve, check the top and bottom radiator hoses are securely connected, check the subframe where the radiator sits for any sign of moisture to see if it's been leaking and sitting there.

Check the aux waterpump piping as well.

Can't really think of it being anything else. Unless a coolant hose has a small split

how do you know its a leak , rain water might be colleting on rad fins and
eventually evaporating with the heat

:P

Yea it could be but if so why has it only done it in the last 2/3 weeks?

There is a bit of moisture where the rad sits but that could be rain/puddles. It's really hard to tell!

I have replaced the leaking waterpump and a leaking hose (was in a bad way so will replace it with a spare soon) and the core plug in the block where the g/box is.

I may replace the rad anyway next month and try and see if there are any problems with the pipework at the same time I guess :/

you can get a simple pump thats fits onto the header tank and pressures the whole system...

pressure should not drop off..

if it does you can usually see where..

unless the head gaskets gone..

think quickfit type places usually do a free check...

Well, I scared myself shitless the other day as I suspected it could be so checked the oil cap:

I panicked of course! Decided it may be due to the 1 mile runs I have been doing each day and the wet weather so off I went and went hooning about for 2 hours and it had cleared itself up completely! Also, there is no oil or petrol residue in the header tank so I think HG is okay...may replace it just for a laugh during summer anyway though!

Mad? Me? Nah!!! I am just longing to see inside the F7R engine and have a play!

And the neighbours are no longer a problem. I have converted their kids into semi pro mechanics, and convinced the husbands to buy track day weapons :D
