View Full Version : difficulty selecting gears
only started yesterday on my f7p ed reno 9 .
the clutch has only done 10k miles along with the release bearing .
i am having to use lots more force to select gears but there is no
crunching etc . and once in gear ,the car pulls nicely .
my first port was the clutch cable which i never changed .
but i am 100% sure before this problem i was able to select
all gears with ease without using the clutch pedal while engine is off .
but seems to require lots of force as well
so i am guessing clutch cable cant be in fault .
any ideas ?
Checked the gearbox oil levels?
Could be the cable not disengaging the clutch correctly, but if it's also stiff when the engine is off then thats odd.

yeah oil is gashing out the filler hole nicely ,so its full .
i had a fubared clutch cable syndrome on the chamade before and
changing the gears without crunching noises were almost impossible .
this is deffo something else

Play in the linkage thing? (technical term ;) lol)
fixxoreedd :D :D
none of you could guess what it was :P
Gearbox falling off?!
Dirt?
Drip tray in the way?
TELL MEE
nahh mate it was way too simple .
what i have done is to disconnect the gear linkage bar from the g/b end
and do a few gear changes by hand while chucking some grease on there .
my theory is , there is supposed to be a washer before the nut that connects the rod to the gearbox end according to haynes . there was not one there when i disconnected ,just a bolt and a locking nut
which i think has somehow tightened itself overtime due to lack of washer .
refitted the lot using a washer and changes are as sweet as again :P
i love easy fixes  :P
