Car magazine are running an online poll to decide which is the best hot hatch of all time.

can't understand how some made the list tbh. . . . also not suprised to see the lancid delta up there near the top. . .my next car

its because the williams is rarererer...er so less people have experienced it, its elitist :wink:
all that is is who has the most members on the forums voting and when there was only like a thousand williams in the country and a shite load more kraut wagons the chance of the williams winning is slim even tho it is the better car.

How do you define 'best' though? Best to drive? Or coolest?

even though the williams is often claimed to be 'the best hot hatch' it always seems to get overshadowed by the 205, which always annoys me, clarkson claimed the 205 was the best in one of his shows too,
ive never been in one but after a ride in a 309 goodwood (1.9) i cant imagine the 205 would be that entertaining tbh.
saab 99 turbo?? why is that even on there?
i always preferred the 309 to the 205 tbh.
goodwoods were nice..but the extra weight from the leather........... :shock:

the uno tubs of the time could show 1 a clean pair of heels tho..til it came to a corner lol.

Willy had to shade it, but only just over Integrale and Cozzy.
i voted for the williams, as i'm on here now, but to be honest i'm unsure myself between the willy and the 205, both very capable and equal cars imo

I've had the 205 1.9 and a couple of Williams 2s. Its the clio for me tho.
Voted. Though the Sud nearly got my vote :)
Looks like the R5 GTT is going up fast. I must say, I loved mine. If I was to go for another hot hatch after the Williams it would be a mint Raider like my old one.

They feel rabid, but I think it's partly down to the fact they are flimsy as hell and feeling of impending death is heightened.

my r5 was solid as a rock, feels just as solid as my williams. both strong, but then mine was looked after:

the r5 feels rapid coz it is ;) 0-60 times mean nothing, but this thing would hit it in 7sec std, the engine was from the 50's, you got a nice turbo whistle, it was a 1.4. thats why it felt fast. ;) The williams is the better drivers car, it has to be said, but the holligan aspect really went well with the r5 (keep um std though folks), and the clio williams was just a class above, but the r5 was the real underdog. The true pocketrocket in my opinion. LOVE em!
I had a raider back in 1995. Mine was low mileage, had a few dents, but after I had it sorted at Renault it was a minter mechanically. Standard apart from exhaust.
It was nuts. My friends preferred it to my Scooby at the time as it was so raw compared to the bigger saloon, despite less power. I think the oldschool boost emphasised the nuttiness of it :) The boost is addictive, I miss it.

mine similar story without the dents. 70k mileage, 3 owners including me, zero rust, 100% std apart from stereo although the original stereo was included with sale. yes the boost was crazy. I remember borrowing my brothers sti scooby and getting no looks in it, then i borrowed back my raider and pretty much everyone stares. i forget how much times i heard 'is that your raider?'. I do miss it. i bought it for 1400 and 3 years later sold it for 3100.
but the williams will hit 60 in 7 secs too.as std.
mid 5s wen tweeked a little
