View Full Version : Bracket for removing power steering

Looking to remove the power steering pump from the F7r lump and I am aware I will need the alternator bracket as fitted to the Renault 5 GTX 1.7.
I know this bracket is also fitted to other Renaults and Volvos. Can anyone advise which makes and models I can get this bracket from?
u dont need a bracket tbh, depends how u wanna do it!!
ive just changed mine to non pas and all i needed was a shorter belt
took pas pump off, left the std tensioner in place but its not used anyway now, just used the black bracket on the side of the inlet manifold, elongated the hole with the alternator is mounted to and tensioned it via that!
belt was a 6pk838 iirc

Also if anyone can help with the bracket.
btw the alternator uses its std lower mount and upper mount, just the top mount is now the adjuster too!
wil get some pics over next couple days of the set up, been working and to dark when i get home!!!

just used the top black bracket to adjust the tension, by elongating the hole as said.

How is it to drive?

tbh other then taking the pas pump out it was quite easy!
im still using the pas rack but i stripped/rebuilt it and packed it with high temp grease, and then capped the 2 main holes off. only driven it up/down the drive as im waiting on a few small bits before i can take it on the road! feels heavy on parking manouvers like but should be fine when driving!
also obviously now when steering theres no strain placed on the engine vis the pas pump so should help abit, as soon as ive driven it properly will post up!

is that belt code a part number or the size/spec?
its size/spec but also the part number on some sites..

Is it an engine out job to take the PAS pump off the block?
I know when I changed my alternator it was tight enough :lol:
no, but you need the bonnet and o/s headlight off, also remove the front member and start the fight lol
