Thinking about buying one of these, I know that they are 110bhp but I wanna know how fast they are compared to other cars.. I was thinking about either one of these, a 1.8 Ford Focus or a Polo GTi 1.6 16v...

How will this car compare?

There not that bad quicker than 1.2's but not much better than the 1.4's and there much higer insurance (group 7 for the 1.4 and 14 for the 1.6 I think).
There probably quicker than the focus but about the same maybe slower than the Polo.

Personally I wouldn't go buy one either get a year or so older 172 which won't cost that much more and has better brakes suspension and much more power.

Focus are very very nice to drive. Chassis is amazing for what is an mass produced family hatchback. I say go for that. :)

Insurance isnt a problem, but im worried that ill get a 1.6 16v clio and be disapointed with the performance! I fancy a focus but they are very very very common, cant afford a 172 and hate the older shape ones! Thanks for the advice tho!

Insurance on the 1.6 16v is only group 8, polo gti is 12 and thats only £470 so clio cant be bad, might go and test drive a Focus and a Clio on sunday and see what i think. My only worry with a Polo GTi is that it wont be worth anything when i come to sell it in a year or two!

Also, anyone know how much Sat Nav is for the clio?

What sort of budget are you looking at? Mk1's 172 are going for £5k now.
I realy wouldn't go to a half way house personally with the 1.6 Clio when 172's are so cheap.

Sat Nav for the Clio isn't cheap getting it retro fitted is to expensive your only option is an aftermarket setup unless you cna find a CLio which has it (rare).

What about a Lupo Gti there very good fun cars much better than a Polo IMO.

I dont like the early shape 172's, i think they look too dated! As for the lupo GTi, they are £8500 up 2nd hand.. which is too much!

Got £6,000!

Buy an Integra Type R.

1.6 Clios are dull, dull, dull in every way.

Of your list though, I would definitely go for the Focus. Outhandles the lesser Clios by a mile and seriously good fun for a family car (like Edde says).

The Polo is VW which means that it too will also be dull. Not that I have driven one though.

I test drove a 1.6 and ended up buying a dCi 80. Much more grunt for most of the time. 3 people in the 1.6 killed it.
