hi there just wanted to hear off people to see which williams is the best as will be getting one in the new year. both technical and own points of view would be appriciated.

obviously a 2, everyone knows that. they are faster and handle better.
why? coz ive got one! :lol:
in seriousness the way i see it is:
willy 1 - the 'original' (with numbered plaque) so perhaps has a little more kudos
willy 2 - a facelifted 1, same colour too.
willy 3 - same again, different colour, sunroof and maybe ABS im not sure, the heaviest of the 3.

I would not get a 3 for one reson only.......... And that it has a sunroof that always bloody leak and fills up the door light console in the roof so when you go round a bend you get a wet face and nuts!! :evil: That why iv got a 2 now. :wink:

Clio sunroof's are a pain in the arse, for that reason alone I'd cross out a willy3. Even my sisters v reg clio sunroof leaks!!

ok then i'll forget about the 3. did have a sunroof leak myself.
so between the 1 and 2 which is the best or is it just a case of personal preference?
As much as everyone will agree and disagree - your getting the same car basically..
Its upto you decide which you prefer the look of, ph1 vs ph2 and/or if the little things like front door speakers and electric mirrors are important to you...

if your spending your money get the original williams in std trim

My 2 looks like a 3 on the indside and a 1 on the outside - I've changed 4 things altogether but it makes that difference , to me and to look of the car.

yeah fair comment, would be nice to have a 1 but think the 2 is prob seeming to be it as more of them available. think prob best to see what is available when my motor has been sold.

This is coming from the man who has a 1 but prefers the phase 2 :lol:
for me it would have been a compromise getting a 1 (although not a very big one admittedly)
I think anyone who saw mine in the flesh would like it a lot :D
if i was to buy another williams again id go for a 1, my hybrid is a mix of ph1 and 2, got 1 mirrors/door trims but ph2 rear lights/grill and a williams spoiler lol

I wanted the first williams I went to see - at the time I didn't give a bugger about which it was! although I was glad it didn't have a sunroof after the valvers pathetic one.

i can honestly say my sunroof on the old 3 never leaked on me once, where as the valver leaked all the time which is why i plated the roof lol

^^^ would anyone who knew **** all about them know the difference? thats whay always pops into my mind - enthusiasts will know but out of anyone I've ever told I have the willy only 2 have ever asked what number is it - I just then explain its a 2 so it doesn't have the plaque and then its onto another subject! :lol:

tbh most ppl didnt know the difference too with my 3 daz, always got asked which number it was, just said 3 lol
i was at gsf in sheffield once and some pug 205gti owners came over to me asking about the car lol, they both wanted one aswell lol
neither of my sunroofs leak ;)

you pays your money, you takes your choice.... you can get a better condition Willy 2 for less money than a 1, but as people say, there is the original kudos of being in one of the original 400 cars if you get a 1. Buy on condition first, phase second...

thats what i did tbh, i looked at loads of 1s'2s and 3s over about 5weeks and the 3 i bought was best condition etc
still turned out to be a nail lol
my willy is a bit raggedy :lol: :P
id have to say a 1.

If I was buying a willy it would have to be a 1 or 3,
1 because it's the original and 3 because I love 432 8) But I'd have to have ph1 mirrors
If you're as good as I am :roll: the sunroof wont leak...ever :wink:

my advise to you and im sure that the majoirty on here wud agree, get the best example you can of either 1 2 or 3. if u have a bit of a leaky sunroof on a 3 so what, if its a good low mileage example with few owners and great condition, its a decent trade off.
just go for a decent example mate, all the best!

3 for me, although if you could find a mint 1 for the right money that would be the one, as people have said, the originality is what you pay the money for ;)
To be honest there is very little in it. The Willy 1 is the winner here, lets be honest, we are all suckers for little gold badges in our cockpits whether you wanna admit it or not.
The 1 was a tiny bit lighter too, shame about the stereo though.
But as I said, there is shit all in it and at the end of the day the are all Williamses (apart from the 2 & 3 maybe as they dont have little gold badges ;) )

i bought a 3 for every day use.
depends on how much you drive it.
and my sunroof has never leaked !
Willbrid has willy 1 doors on anyway - dam all i'm missing is a custom plaque with my reg on and I've got my perfect car!

I just got a Willy 1, I thought about a 2 and a 3 but was presented with the opportunity to pick up Number 0012 with a FSH and couldn't resist. I tend to think that It doesn't really matter what level of equipment the car has, it is all down to Condition, and handling. I chose a 1 because I liked the Idea of having one of the first Built, I don't claim it to be any better or any worse than the Williams 2 or the Williams 3 but I do feel it has a certain amount of prestige about it that the 2 or 3, for me don't quite live up to. That said, I do not wish to upset any 2 or 3 owners and quite frankly If you own a Williams, any Williams then you are clearly a cut above the rest.

I am with you on this mate! I have a collection of about 20 of them! One for every car I have owned and then a few more for cars I would like to have owned!
They have saved me many hours of frustration sometimes and provided excellent upon the bog reading material!
