Jamie.

A budget may go some way to helping us suggest a car for you.

I would like a Focus RS.

Megane R26.

Evo 6 TME

Should have refreshed.

tried an evo but no1 will insure me due to my age. a clio v6 is 1500 to insure! wt are audi s3 like?

Jamie.
18-12-2008, 20:28
Not sure on the S3's, unless it is a top of the range new one I am not insterested tbh.

£1,500 for insurance is also ALOT. What were you paying on the Williams?

matt.turner
18-12-2008, 20:29
900 fully comp or 680 tpft. got a quote for a rs focus 1300 tpft or 1500 comprehensive

Jamie.
18-12-2008, 20:34
You wont get a Focus RS anyway for that buget.

Like paddy said a Trophy or a Intergra maybe a good call - cannot see too many new turbo cars which fit that category other than Impreza's or Evo's.

how does the 182 trophy compare to the willy on performance and handling?

Jamie.
18-12-2008, 20:41
I think my 172 is a bit quicker than my williams so its fair to say it will be quicker not massively though.

As for handaling I am not the best person to say but it is very, very good. When you have the suspension that it does it is going to be excellent. However they dont feel anything special to be in.

I am just going to throw an oddball out there, a car very close to my heart, that one day I WILL own. A true classic and well recognized as one of the best handling cars EVER examples can be found just about around your budget, maybe not a perfect example but something to love for sure.....

Porsche 968 Clubsport.

I'm quite surprised you can't get insured on an evo but you can a V6

Impreza P1

Jamie.
18-12-2008, 22:06
Impreza P1

Yeh I like them but they have a part on the engine when not replaced causes them to blow.

The cost of them to run is also monumental.

stevie_b
18-12-2008, 22:12
Which part is that then? I hear the high cost thing a lot, but you should get 25 mpg out of it in normal use, so not massively different to the Willy, and the last service I had done was £76! Insurance could be pricey, I agree, but I only pay ~£300 a year fully comp but age and NCB on my side.

Jamie.
18-12-2008, 22:13
I think someone said it was the map sensor.

Yeah heard this myself, the bottom end bearings go.....suppose it's like any highly tuned car, if not cared for with zero mechanical sympathy then things inevitably will fail......they look sooooo sweet though....seriously considering one next year!

get you mum to insure you and get an Evo 4... absolute beast! if you are feeling like you want to be risky, you could always go for a GTi-R?.. or one of my faves and quite rare, the Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo!

bodben
18-12-2008, 23:39
Got a 20v turbo out in the driveway, The engine is AWESOME really lovely piece of kit and can feel shockingly fast! It doesn't handle as well as the Williams though, but it is still a great car! Go for the Turbo plus from 2000, nice body kit, nice Recaro interior and a big red start button :P

how does the 182 trophy compare to the willy on performance and handling?

i've had a fair few goes against a certain trophy, on some b roads, my williams had a slight edge on both performance and through the bends, there was very little in it, but had the blast been for longer, i feel i would have gained distance on it, and we where both giving it the beans, i wouldn't buy one, not that there not nice, but whats the point, doesn't do anything the williams cant do!

bill.
18-12-2008, 23:50
i'd be thinking along the lines of an evo myself, ring around like **** for insurance lol

More or less what i was going 2 sugest.
Although i havent had the williams out since i got the trophy imo its the perfect upgrade from the williams, its quieter a/c, trip comp. cruze etc. not that they matter much, but is still light and nimble and handling is emence! I love it

hi mate,

im in a similar sort of boat to you, but ill be selling my williams just after xmas.

im going for an s3 2001 onwards (225 bhp, facelift) the s3 before that were 210 bhp and looked a tiny bit different

they are a tasty motor, they are really well built and really comfortable, stick a 500 re-map on and its a 270 bhp car

my mates got one 295 bhp and it does go well! they are a heavy car though - a world away from a willy!

yeah they are solid motors to be honest
the silvia is basically a baby skyline with a 2 ltr turbo, chasis is pretty much the same. got about 240bhp in mine.

200 sx is a good call

If you wanna go rear wheel drive drifter style, and lots of tuning turbo potential then yea 200sx is nice.

stevie_b

Would be a lot less than £7k too? Would leave plenty left in the kitty to enhance it

I forgot one iconic car from my list:

Lotus Elise S1

drsmith1979
20-12-2008, 08:12
The issue with going with iconic cars such as the Lanci, Elise, lotus Carlton etc.. is that they are almost as bad as the Willy in their upkeep and service requirements!...

I love the Fiat Coupe Turbo's, so much power for so little money!....

One option could be to go down the Audi TT route? i have one for the wife, its only the 180quattro model, but its got an APR remap and a couple of uprated bits, nothing major and its sat at 214BHP, 4 wheel drive and turbo fun!... Start with a 225bhp model and you can have 257bhp OEM beast on the drive, looks good... get an aftermarket front bumper set up and some nice wheels and its an awesome piece of kit.....

Save up and get some special bits and bobs, turbo kit, full turbo back exhaust etc... and you are over 300bhp reliably, 4 wheel drive and great handling..... Maybe something to consider?

Oh and get a good one and they are bullet proof, my wifes has over 124k miles on it, and its as good as new! Servicing is pretty simple too so no massive maintenence costs.... just makesure its had its belts done and dash clocks changed or repaired under warranty

And the little wing at the back, as they had a model recall...should have been done by Audi.
