View Full Version : MOUNTINGS
Can some one help me with the chaging of the mounts on top of the shock absorbers, tools etc pic even !
spring compressors,21mm deep reach/swan neck spanner and 6mm alan socket are most important weird tools, rest is spanners etc
undo bonnet, free off strut top bolts using swan neck spanner and alan key to counter hold centre of the nut,
jack up car and remove front wheels
undo 2x 18mm bolts from hub to strut on both sides
hold strut and undo top mount nut u loosened before and slide strut gently out from wheel arch makin sure dont catch brake lines etc
compress spring using spring compressor
undo 10mm nut or prise out circlip depending on type of strut u have
slide off top donut rubber, then top mount bearing and replace with new items
refit 10mm nut or new circlip
release spring compressors
pop strut back on car in reverse order of removal process, ensure all bolts are tight
wheels back on, drop car and tighten road bolts
have a brew

So how do i check if the shocks are f~@ked ? has they have pushed up both sides, raising the top mounts
You'll need to get the springs off, assuming you cant tell from the usual trick of pushing each corner down and seeing how fast the car self levels. Bounciness means they are fooked.
If you get the shocks out and seperate them from the springs, try compressing them by hand and see how hard they are and if they push back into shape. They should, if not, replace.
