Agree with that, I've had my Halfords Pro set for a few years now and its spot on for a home mechanic. Just make sure it is a professional set you get and not one of their other crap sets.

i have the halfrauds set, and its been great, but i have added to it and got there cranked spanners, a socket set on a rail and the star drivers on a rail.

I would say your best option is to buy 1x 1/2 inch breaker bar 1 x 1/ inch ratchet and a full set of sockets on a rail all from the pro range.
then get a decent set of spanners and cranked ones as they are well handy :D

But like i say i have got the full halfrauds pro set and its been in use for 5 years with no issues, but don't use 90% of it

One more for the Halfords Pro 150 piece set - even if you don't use all of it, you never know when you might need it... :P lol

Fair point - its the only thing thats broken in my set. To be fair though they have been replaced free of charge, no questions asked when taken into the shop which is a large part of the reason I would recommend the set.

ive broken 2 T55's and done over 10 sets of headbolts on a 3 foot breaker bar. replaced with no questions asked.

have recently purchased halfords screwdriver set and both sets of their ratchet spanners. top goods.

def not worth spending on snap-on unless in the trade

If you are going for it btw it would be worth checking if anyone you know has a trade card with them as you get a reasonably good discount on all their professional range iirc.
