What I'd do is get a phillips screwdriver, open it up, and have a look
However...I can tell you they are Panasonic CR2016 3V, and you need two for full charge.

just realised the 2032 is too big. thanks for the help...
is there a certain time restrition about how quickly i have to put the batteries in?

No they key fob data is 'hardwired' data, much like the BIOS on a PC.
Blindin'... thanks wobba!
Just ordered some of the 'bay meself :D Mines in need of some new batteries as well!

If I can find the ones I've got somewhere safe lol then I can sort people out :)
I've a feeling they're somewhere in the garage...
Bought a couple of batteries last night but the fob still doesn't work : ( (its never worked since I bought the car - I assumed it was the batteries but maybe not). I'll have to try and clean the fob up inside and if that doesn't work then I'll give up!

try the contacts for the batteries but basically try and clean up all the soldered joints a small stiff bristle brush (not nylon can create static) then carefully inspect all the joints to see if any of the soldered joints are broken sometimes it may need to be gently flexed to identify any probs or if your good with an iron get some flux and carefully resolder all the joints taking care not to create any shorts also might be an idea to check out the ir pcb for the same issues i found a couple of broken joints there too :) :)
Thanks for the help - I cleaned it up, sorted the PCB and it works!
