View Full Version : Grinding noise when steering left?

Hi,

I'm not sure what the problem here is, but when I steer left a little on my Williams whilst driving, it sounds like there is a grinding noise coming from the front left wheel (sort of amplifies the sound from the exhaust).

Any idea what it could be?

Just to add I don't think it is the wheel arch as it has full clearance when fully locked left.

Is it when you steer a bit left? or a lot left?

have you had the column out or downpipe off recently? maybe the columns bottom joint is catching against the downpipe

Bearing?

It's when I steer a bit left, more like gradually veering left from the right hand lane along a straight road.

Nothing from the car has come off, so I'm not sure if it the bottom joint.

I'm thinking it might have been the bearing too, but wasn't sure. How much would that likely cost to sort out?

Bearing's about £50 I think?

Plus an hour or so to fit iirc.

£20 for the bearing so maybe £50 all in

bearings are 30quid each from gsf assuming clios use the
larger type like the 19 16v ? (bought them 2 weeks back)

its pretty easy to replace front bearings with some simple tools
and common sense if you dont want to pay .

I have some new wheel bearings I may sell...

If its when you steer left. jack up the O/s wheel and spin it while you hold the suspension strut if you feel vibrations I'd say wheel bearing.
