Hi guys,

My Williams 3 is due for an MOT next week. I bought the car in June this year, and even though I have a lot of the paperwork, I can't seem to locate any definate work being done on the timing belt. The person I bought it from "believes" it was done at around the 62,000 mile mark, but he only owned it less than a year. Unfortunately the service book went missing when the owner before him had it. He passed on the mobile number of the previous person, but guess what, the line is disconnected. So I can't even confirm anything.

Therefore...

How much am I looking to spend to get the timing belt done? The car currently sits on around 81,000 miles. I'm thinking of getting the water pump done too at the same time since it's gonna be opened up :S

Also, how much am I roughly looking at for a full service on the car?

I know it's gonna cost a fair whack, and to be honest I don't really have the money for it all, but figured that if the timing belt was done, might as well get the pump done too...I just have to find the money from somewhere :'(

I'm based in London. If any of you could kindly provide me with a breakdown of quotes then at least I know I can minimise the hole in my pocket.

I'm just thinking along the lines of better safe than sorry...

Cheers guys...

Book time for cambelt used to be 4 hours approx, then you materials and vat on top of that, so 100ish for timing belt kit, 50ish for water pump and 4 hours labour at poss 40 per hour, then vat.

Im guessing some places might be 2-300 guive or take, maybe more

Ahmed:~
When did you price up the parts, and the prices you gave,do they include any discount, and vat.
I was quoted:~
£98:19 (vat inc) for the cambelt kit
£17:48 (vat inc) for the auxillary belt
£9:49 (vat inc) for the oil filter.
That was today

hi rod , those prices does not include vat , all the parts came on one receipt and vat gets added at the end , so no idea what each item would cost including the vat , unless someone wants to add the 17.5% :) .

the items were bought last year october , i was informed that since then there has been a price increase by renault.

some parts also include a 10% discount some dont.

just trying to give the op an idea but i have no doubt your prices are the accurate ones and no one gets discount from renault like you do 8) .

matt i was informed that you flashed me  lol , too much glare from the sun in my eyes, otherwise im like a hawk at spoting williams/valvers on road, just a shame theres not too many around our way .
but i do seem to be bumping into mkr quite often :)

Thanks for your replies guys. I got a *rough* estimate from my local Renault specialist garage (not Renault themselves). He quoted me around £400+ for the work to be done, so I guess that falls in the upper range of costs according to what I'm reading here...?
