Ok,

Found this which gives full detail of new tax rules on cars

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/HowToTaxYourVehicle/DG_10012524

But my question is this;

How do you know what CO2 a car falls into, with the new tax rules?

Is it diagnosed when the car goes for its MOT?

Ill be going to buy a new car within the next week and dont want to have shick of my life when I come to tax it, and it falls into category F for example!!

Any advice would help!

:P

I know it says on the above link

''These details are shown on the Registration Certificate''

But I would have thought the emissions change over time?

Is there anywhere/a site that lists all models with CO2 emission rates?

Thanks

have a look on parkers (reviews-tech info) and look at the car you are thinking of, it has the tax band info for each car on it.

By checking those dates and info, by buying a car registered before March 2006 then the top rate is only £210?

Only for cars reg post March 2006 is the hefty bracket applied?

Well, thats good news for me as I though by buying a Focus RS I was going to have to shell out £400 a year - happy days.

Ok thats great that guys!

Thanks for that I shall now have a look at parkers.

I was out on my bike the other nite and a focus RS was behind me, he nailed it past from low revs, maybe 25mph, and Ive NEVER seen a car with as much torque steer in my life!

It looked cool as **** like! It had a right snake on!

Do they have traction control? Im sure that was the only thing that kept it pointing the right way!

POWER WISE IT JUST LOOKED A RIGHT ANIMAL!

it wont be £200 a year tho, it goes up to £300 a year from april then £430 the year after

Jamie.

Right, so how much does a FRS cost to tax now then?

Jamie.
27-09-2008, 22:15
Ahh right, you thought I meant that it would be £200 p/a, no. I meant £200 EXTRA per year.

I regarded the first £200 as a sunk cost.

sod that not paying that much in car tax! wil stick with a older low tax car lol

the 182 is going up to £260 a year and im not reyt impressed tbh, should hopefully have a company van soon so free van/fuel lol get shot of the 182 then!

Jamie.
27-09-2008, 22:33
Well, you will have a Van benefit allowance of £3,000 for the capital element and a Private Van fuel benefit of £500. However if you qualify for the use of private element then, there will be no additional charge.

But if you don't then you will have to pay an extra £3,500 @ 20% which is £700 ......... More than your car tax

As commuting to and from a permenant place of work doesn't consist of business mileage and unless you have to drive around a bit you may actually find claiming expenses is a better option financially.

nah man, our company vans are totally free inc fuel, also get a free mobile, only have to pay if we want to use them for personal use which i wont as i will still have my hybrid!

Yeh a friend of mine gets a car on such scheme and he is asked to pay for his "private use".

His "private use" extends to filling his wife's car though, lol.

Over 225 – for cars registered on or after 23/03/06

right, so what if your car falls over 225 co2, and was registered in 02? u fall into band f?

I dont see how this is supposed to help the enviroment? I mean, were all just gonna buy older cars with higher emissions :?

They are cheaper to buy and cheaper to tax.

Its just another way of raping you for more money that won't go into the transport system, but will subsidise all the benefit and healthcare that is being shelled out on our massive 'immigration' problem....

The UK is becoming a liberal pussy state bound by the EU's leather straps... giving you a right royal bending over.. lol not that im bitter or anything

I'm just glad i dont live there anymore..... i never have to have an MOT again, just he odd 'smog test' here and there every 3+ years, and our car tax is 60GBP a year! And i have an Audi TT and a 5.4 V8 Ford Expedition... oh and a VW Bug!

paying 400+GBP a year for tax is just ****ing crazy!

Basically yeah! Thats how I see it.

Whats the point in buying a car after the march 01 date if your just gonna get ****ed on tax! Unless you fall into the real lower band or unless you can really afford it. I can see everyone going and buying cars before the registration date.

The thing that baffles me is that im driving a car without a de-cat, its old, it runs rich, its highly un-eco-friendly, yet it will be cheaper to tax than most modern cars after that date!!

My next door neighbour has some stupid ****ing vau-xhall 1.2 thing 03' plate, no bigger than a shoe box on wheels, looks like an invalid car and he pays £150 a year tax on it, yet a k reg 1.4 clio rt will be less than £100 (i think), yet probably spills out more shit in a week than this vau-xhall will in a year!

Its ****ing backwards if you ask me!
