Now, I har the bulge was du to the engine being too tall, but I have also heard its due to the areodynamics to help force the cold air through the vent?

What is true?

Has anyone run a standard, non-bulge bonnet on a F7 lumped car without issues?

re vent on bonnet i didnt think it was a cold air scoop i was under impression it acted in the opposite way by creating a point of low pressure to suck all that heat away from engine bay

i heard it was a bit of chimney theory, air over the engine, forcing hot air out through the vent - im sure i saw a pic of a 16v or willy engine being ran without a bonnet vent and the exhaust manifold was glowing from it being so damned hot. i wanna see that pic again actually, it stayed with me. then again i was probably high and enjoyed the pretty pink. infact, im high now. :)

That vent cant vent upwards at 70mph, lol

It's just I want to 16v the RSi.................. but sleeper

it somehow creates an area which draws the hot air out of the bay, its not simply a 'vent'

my bet is you will over heat it in summer

will it still remove hot air with out a rain catcher?

IIRC thats a Supersprint not OEM manifold hence the pink glow due to material properties.

My mistake - it is OEM (i think) - I do remember a lot of people saying the supersprints had/have a tendency to glow hot pink though

16v defo won't overheat if you've no vent/lesser spec bonnet.

Plenty of people get away with it - e.g. 16v'd 1.4s/16v R5/16v'd R19's.

ive got a 1.4 maxim with a williams in and standard bonnet, just had to cut the inside slightly to stop an annoying rubbing noise. other than that fine!!
