As a first question, does anybody know if you can use the 2 litre engine found in the Volvo 460 as a basis for a 2 litre 16v engine. I know its a Renault engine but I dont know if it will all fit together with a 16v head.

I'm only asking as i'm currently building a hybrid gearbox using a 16v bellhousing and diff (with uprated bearings) and a Volvo 440 end case and gears. I'm putting uprated bearings into this, and i'm just making a pattern up to have some uprated selector forks cast and machined.

Total cost at the minute is £15 and will be £60 to have the selectors cast & machined. Hopefully it'll be a bit stronger.

See ya

someone had an 8v turbo 2.0 volvo in a clio who ran at york last year... that was running 14.0 when the highest from the N/A boys was 2 live on 14.1 or 14.2 that day... so there's certainly a few extra options there.

Clean basically the 3rd gear selctor fork bent with the harsh shifting, then as it is forced the other way it snapped. The snapped part then travelled along the end case and out into the diff where it is spun round, and as it gets jammed it smashes the ally casing to release the pressure. Here are some pics of the parts left.

As you can see it has snapped clean off. On the forks i'm having produced the strenghtening "webbing" is gona be 5mm thick instead of the current 2mm, with vanes running down it to strengthen them.

This is the casing

The hole is pretty big, but if I ever need a spare end casing I can easily get it repaired as my mate is a coded TiG welder.

The gearbox continues to function when it has broken, as the other half of the selector shaft can still select the gear, but obviously all of the gearbox oil drains so it starts grinding the gears up.

Jesus I saw the 2 litre turbo Volvo engines, but standard they apparently only have 120bhp so would need upgrading if fitted. Obviously it will be a lot easier than a n/a car as it would be a case of more intercooling and more boost for some extra power. I'm going to look into them anyway, as I fancy a challenge lol.

See ya

Sounds good mate, you'll have to keep me updated, it would be good if some one could find a strong box for the clio's. Make sure you keep us updated.
