Cadwell is a mint circuit I have to admit plus the weather and our digs where spot on, a class couple of days and probably the reason I felt suicidal this morning going back to work

Bring on the build 8)

Corrado VR6's are faster than the G60's.
Substantially so.

Yes but they're still a lazy heavy lump in a heavy car

Don't get me wrong they're quick in standard trim but a stock vr6 wouldn't drive away like that from a stripped out rally clio!

A vr6 standard for standard is faster than a williams how does that make it lazy?

Standard VR6's are not 'rubbish' as per your earlier statement and are faster than the forced induction (supercharged) variants when comparing OEM specs.

I don't recall saying the car was in standard trim.

^^^ so what exactly is your point then? :?

its a 2.8 v6 engine that makes 190bhp, which for the capacity of the engine I think is rather low and a bit lazy - thats what I was implying - you see many of the same capacity engine producing much higher outputs that that while retaining much better fuel econemy.

only on top end tho.

2 of my mates used to have vr6s they both got left by the willy till i hit the limiter, and they came sailing past about 10 mins later.

members who attended the john noble r/r day a few years ago will hve seen 1 of em,ended up being the highest output car that day iirc. had many a tussles with em both, never lost out unless we were on a mway lol.

also the v6 4 motion things always seemed to get a good panning. raced 1 outta york , him 2 up me 4 up, was havin t anchor on thru the twisties behind him, but was about even on the straights. in fact, i had the 2 vr6 owning mates in the car at the time. they werent happy lol.

Standard williams beating a standard VR6??
Completely standard with 6500 limiter too with full interior?

Reason I believe the VR6 to be substantially fast is they have longer ratios than a JC5 box does and do not require third to hit 60 (one measure of a cars pace)..

the mid range punch of the of the VR6 engine makes it no slouch with various in gear times being quoted as very quick through speeds ranging from 50-90mph.

Cannot remember which magazine it was (either autocar or evo iirc) but one of them tested the corrado to 60 and it was circa 6.5 seconds. A standard williams has never reached times like that.

Agreed with them not being as nimble as a Williams for sure.

yes mate. was pre cam days, only mods were obligatory de-cat and cat back zorst. and yes it was fully trimmed up, even had the childseats in the back most of the time. maybe his was a sloe one, but the 1 n only time i had it timed 0-60 mine was pulling 7.01 with a fair bit of spin on launch. was 5.63 with cams etc.

yes his vr6 would hit 70 mph in 2nd, maybe even 75, canny remember now , was def 70+ but even then it would be behind me. he had the colour concept trim, car was like a plum colour, iirc hed had it chipped by the john noble day, not 100% sure. i remember going over with him to get it chipped, and the comparisons b4 and after. altho tbf, the monsoon like conditions at the time kinda hindered both of us lol.

Fair do's - there is no doubt mk1 clios respond well to mods, weight saving etc. Corrado VR6's in standard form were very capable cars - in stripped out track spec i would imagine they are pretty dangerous too.

Matty86's bro bought a Corrado VR6 little while back - took me for a spin in it. Three people in the car and it felt powerful! Mid-range seemed effortless and quite lethal.

I am sure he will report up when his 182 engined mk1 goes head to head with the VR6 8)
