View Full Version : Water in the under sill

I seem to have got a load of water in my passenger undersill that basically sounds like a small wave whenever you break or go and it starting to get very irritating.

Noticed that some clios have plastic covers on the front wheel arches to stop water getting in - is the the norm on willys?

A mate suggested just drilling a hole in the back to drain it but another said there's holes already there and they just need clearing of dirt etc but i can't seem to find them. Anyone else had this problem?

yeah, just drilled holes in the cill to let it out, do you have rusty arches? that was the cause of mine as the water drives its way in

yeah they are there....look on the back of the sill there like little bumps which should be clear of dirt.

also the rear window seals are common on the opening rear windows which can let in water which runs down the inside of the rear panel.

Your rear outer arches will have pulled away from the inner arch - thus letting water in.

Take the rear door cards out and spray water into the arch and watch it come fludding in

Where are the drain holes? I cannot find any and have same problem. Be good to get a pic up once and for all for this as it's been asked lots before :)

They are on the inside of the bit of sill that sticks down.
Someone has posted a pic before.

Right, cant find any sign of any drainage holes front or back on either side :(

Not sure where to drill...

Is the one on the front, behind the sill, in the corner bit off the angled bit that leads to the sill jacking point?

Wobba

Ok...they are actually in the sill bit that projects downwards then, not actually holes but kinda pipes inside the sill?

get under the back of the sill, there will be 3 buldges / flairs in the back of the sill panel and they should have a hole in....

will get you a pic if i get chance

FOUND EM! They were blocked :D Not really 'holes...more like slits in the sill edge itself...

Fair bit of water came out the passenger side where I could hear the sloshing, none on driver side:

need to find how its getting in....all that rust lol

Yea :( sadly the sills are showing signs of bad rust at the front. I am wondering how best to deal with it tbh...There is some stuff that works to solidify rust and penetrates even through wet cracks, cant remember name, and it's expensive stuff too!

lol :) It's a Willy 1! I have found water in the rear of the car and under rear seats. I have removed rear seats and let it all dry out now but it was quite bad when I bought the car a couple of months ago. There could be a window seal leak or a hole in the sill somewhere...

Think I'll get some Dinitrol anyway and give it a going over soon, inside and outside the sills.

have rear cards out mate, check the rear window seals then fully for influx of water, i have same issue on my willy 1 on drivers side, the rear footwell is a bit damp.

Yea, I think thats a good plan. Most of the stuff is already out of the back of the car but I'll take a gander under the door cards and do some treatment to that and other areas of rust at the same time before winter really kicks in.

The jobs are mounting up! Just the way I like it :D

I would personally find where its coming in from fix it then chop off the sills and whack in brand new ones..

My rear quarter window was at fault on mine, well the seal - I was very lucky in that it had only just started...

Thats why I've got fixed rear quarters now - as brand new £60 opening seals were just as shit as the old ones... once the trims back in you can't tell whats lurking under there...

No-ones gonna like my 2 soon well the snobs won't  its a genuine willy hybird none of the valver shell rubbish! I've raided the parts bin and chosen the best bits of all 3 willy's and whacked em on...

Thinking of getting some Williams 1.75 stickers made up :D

yeah i had the same problem, my rear footwells were a bit damp so i pulled the whole interior out and found a gallon of water under the sound deadning. if theres enough water to make the carpet damp theres alot more than you think in there.

wouldnt use dinitrol as the wax drys hard and clogs the drain holes....i would use oil and spray that instead, it will do the same job and will run down all the seams

better to use dinitrol and then clear the drain holes as oil won't stick to the surfaces and hasn't any rust killing properties
