Initial plan was to reshell with all the bells and whistle done before we transfer everything else so we can take our time and still compete in the current car

Just buy a cup racer and convert to a rally car, thats my next move.

Clicky box would be the best upgrade possible. :D

Would be nice mate but don't have those type of dollars at the minute as looking to move house once the market sorts itself out

When I was looking for a cage last year, it was a case of take the shell to the likes of Caged, Custom Cages, Roll-Centre etc etc and pay about 2000-2500 for a full install. Their cages tend to be about £1000 (for similar layout to the OMP you have shown), and then about the same again for fitting.

I figured it would be cheaper to fit it myself! So I bought the OMP 6point weld in (the next one down from what you have shown) with the intention of using that as a base, and adding on where I thought appropriate. So I fitted the main cage, and have also continued through the bulk to the strut tops, and then triangulated down towards the door pillar.

Theres a pic below to show the general idea (not shown is the downward triangulation).
Its almost ready for painting, the only other section im going to added is some strip bracing between the A and B pillars to the cage, and possibly some sort of pick-up point fromt he rear of the cage to the torsion bar bolts.

SO It really depends on your budget!

Hi Stan

Not seen the triangulation to the strut top done like that before, once you put a strut brace or additional bar from the cae that should pretty strong I would have thought

Budget doesn't really matter, don't get me wrong I'm not minted but in the same breath I don't intend scrimping on something as inmportant as a a cage

Personally, If I were you I'd take the shell to Custom Cages and get the cage fitted that you sent in the PM.
Though I think its 1700+vat (*think +vat*), Its a damn good install. And If I was building my car again, I would probably go down this route to save time....at the time I didnt have the budget for it though.
Dont get me wrong, I didnt mind fitting my cage, but they arent the "funnest" thing to fit. For one welding on the shell is a shit job, then its actually positioning it all, prepping etc etc....it takes ALOT of effort to make a nice job. And thats before youve got the facilities and tools.

Im planning one massive project thread when its complete (dec hopefully).
I find it frustrating when I read a project report and you only get an update every few weeks, and with mine you'd be lucky to get one every few months!!

Though in the next few weeks my missus is away with work for most evenings through the week up til xmas, so im planning on knocking it into shape big time!!

Also picking up a nice lil prezzy for 0120 next weekend    :D
