Going from 15 to 17 inch wheels kills a car up the strip according to the 1/4 mile boys.

So why not apply reverse logic and go from 15's to 13's?

Might be worth a few tenths.

Wont fit 13s over the front brakes. 14" may possibly go on though. But to get any real advantage you would need very low profile tyres which cost a fortune in 14" if you can get them.

Cheaper than £3k throttle body conversion though?

Of course if your car was a dedicated 1/4 miler, you could convert to GT Turbo brakes on the front whack some 13" wheels on with 205/50/13 tyres.

Do puntos's run 13 inch tyres then?

My crx did and it was alot faster in real life than its power to weight should have allowed it to be. It would stay with powerful cars above a ton despite a distinct lack of torque.

or u could go really silly and get a mini 4 pot conversion and run 10" s

Anyone tried it?

yes
nick read went from 17/18s to 13s...knocked 0.5 off his best time, but that could also be due to other things as well.i.e re-map, more boost etc etc not 100% sure if the wheel hange was only diff

What about covering your tyres in stick toffee pudding?

Can you get a push off the line like F1 cars from the pits?

no mate..we have to use skill and judgement to get it off the line from a standstill properly

What about a steam launch catapult like they have on aircraft carriers?

I think you have to find the balance really. Jordy got a 14.3 (iirc) in his A3 with 18" or 19" wheels....he tried some smaller wheels and didn`t seem to get as good a time...same with tyre pressure really...take some pressure out to help traction off the line but take too much out and the speed once rolling will suffer

I was gona get a pair of 14" steels with low profiles for mine but seen as i'm selling it soon i'm not going to bother.

Finally got one of my other engines finished off which is going in a Sierra pickup, should run low 13s with a couple of bags of sand in the bed.

See ya

i wanna put sum 16's or 17's on mine will just get more power if it slows it down :D

14's won't fit over standard 16v/Williams calipers. There is a trade off however, by reducing wheel diameter you are doing the equivelant of reducing the gear ratios. So the acceleration you gain you will lose in traction problems when launching, you will need more gear changes and top end will be effected. Hence Martin's nana needing a shift into 5th as it approaches the line because it runs 45 profile tyres........

I had 14's on my valver :P

looks like they will fit then :P

14's fit no problems, RSI's are 14 as std.

Use some 205 width tyres for traction then.

hmmm, my bad. I know i couldn't get 14's on one of my old valvers!
