Ok, quick question for you all that have looked into this... :wink:

Am i right in thinking the only differences between the F7P and F7R engine internals are:

* Crank Shaft & Cam Profiles
* Inlet & Outlet Valves
* Pistons
* Oil Pump & Sump

Anything ive missed out here?? :?

Thanks, Bri. :P

Youve missed about £800 and 20 BHP, lol

Oh yea, and a great big dollop of torque from 2500RPM... :wink:

Crank is just a diesel one from a scrap yard. So thats easy.

Aye thats what i was thinking... and a set of performance cams & High Compression Pistons just leaves the valves which could be sourced from Renault... :P

So that leaves the oil pump... is there anything ive overlooked tho??

e.g Head or Block differences?? :?

Get a megane block, that gets round that problem in one attempt

Yea but the way im looking at it all williams/megan F7R stuff goes for almost obscene amounts compared to F7P... (Bit like VAG Stuff e.g. 1.8T & G60 Parts...)

Just wondering if its do-able and cheaper to source everything for a F7P lump :?

Megane lumps arnt too bad.

You thinking of getting a Valver then?

i think you need to boreaway some of the block to allow for the crank clearence.....

however if you pull it off, let me know aws i have a spare 1.8 engine...

yeah the block will need machining in order to take the crank and bearings, as there thicker in dia too.and the bores will need takin out a tad also

Cheers all... yea a valver could be a distinct possibility! :wink:

But i know ill miss the fact its not got the williams torque delivery... :(

Machining's not a problem, just a question of finding the dimensions... :roll:

Cheers mate, bore'ing it out is the easy bit... its opening the bearing shell seats that i need to look at in more detail me thinks.

Or you can just buy one with the engine already fitted! :wink:

Mat.

The more and more i look at it i keep coming up in circles... :roll:

1. Buy a mint 16v and retro-fit a tuned F7R = approx £5000

2. Buy a high millage williams and restore = approx £4000-4500

3. Try and buy my old williams back = £6000+ :D

Insurance is going to be about £500 more over a valver too!

Decisions decisions... all i want is an engine to toy with over the summer! :P

Aye, Mat PM'd me earlier and ive sent him a reply... i think :?

And there's nothing id want more than my williams back, but i think if i rang the lad up who bought it the phone call would go something like this:

Me: Hello there, im sorry to bother u im the guy who sold u the williams

Him: Oh yea, its a dream of a car! i love it!!

Me: Well... erm... i was just wondering if u wanted to sell it?

Him: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA........ NO!

BigBoreBri

Well the biggest problem is storage...

I have no problem keeping an engine at work to tinker with, but if im going to keep a whole car at home the parents will not be immpressed! :roll:

Also thats 8 months of looking at a car i cant legally drive... :(

lol..but if it has no engine in it cos the engines at work while u mess with it.....u know u cant drive it anyway lol......

the block needs machined to accept the larger webs...the bearing are is the same

KingStromba

Sounds like it will be easier to drop a 2ltr in there.

BigBoreBri
22-02-2005, 19:31
Very true... put a bid in on that williams engine but paul @ infinicar beat me to it! :roll:

Thats what ya get for going down the pub for a few eh... lol :)

Stan, can u confirm the bearing shell seats are the same diameter on the F7P / F7R??

Thing is i been scouting through "dialogys" at work today and its the same cranks used in the F7R and F8Q Diesel engine, although the bearings for each engine are different part numbers; the bearings for the F8Q and F7P look to be the same... :?

So im assuming the F7P bearings/block could be used on a F7R/F8Q Crank...?

P.S from what ive found the standard internal diameter of the crank bearings are 54.8...

BigBoreBri
22-02-2005, 19:41
Also, although this is all just what ive found through the "dialogys" cd, the crank used on the megan F4R engine look to be the same as the F7R too! :wink:
