View Full Version : Short Shifters - Only 57.50

10-08-2008, 17:35
By the end of the week I will have some short shifters available for sale. These reduce the throw of the gear change considerably and stiffen up the change a lot. One of the main bonuses I found with this was that it has totally eliminated gearstick movement under acceleration/deceleration.

Price: The price for these will be £57.50 + £5 delivery.

This is a very good price as most clio short shifter kits are £100+ and very limited in availability.

At the moment most of these have been reserved by people over on clio16valver.co.uk but I still have another 4 available if anyone is interested.

These will be availiable by the end of this week/start of next week at the latest so if you want one kept aside just drop me a PM.

Here are a couple of pics and a video:

Video can be seen on photobucket:

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y293/donsrno1/th_Movie.jpg (http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y293/donsrno1/?action=view&current=Movie.flv)

First part of the video shows the standard shifter going from 1st to 5th, second part shows the short shifter going 1st to 5th, then reverse and then 1st to 5th again.

Some pics:

Before fitting it:

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y293/donsrno1/4.jpg

After fitting it:
Note that the top part is shinier than it looks here, it was just that I'd had my hands on it after working on the car so it was quite greasy

The original shifter for a comparison:

Cheers, and if anyone has any questions or would like one reserved for them just drop me a PM.

Those from this batch I'm getting are all gone now I'm afraid folks. Mr.AdamB snapped up the last one availiable so I'm afraid those after him will have to wait but please look below.

As there is so much interest in these I do intend to order another batch of these so if you are interested add your name to the list below. These would not be availiable until roughly the 28th of august though:

WILL DEFINATELY TAKE ONE IN THE NEXT BATCH

Main improvement is the precision from the knuckle as the std ones have loads of play in them and this looks like (not rosejointed) but 0 play.

Fingers crossed it work OK can only be better than std sloppy one.

Can you get a picture of the OEM and short shifter next to each other.
Would like to see 'all' the changes that exist between the two.

Many thanks.

Just to update this a bit more there is actually another part that comes with the shifter in order to shorten the throw even more, and I didn't even have it fitted in the video.

The extra part is fitted at the gearbox end of the linkage so that the linkage itself doesn't have to move as much. Here is a quick pic of the shortened part next to the original one:

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y293/donsrno1/IMG_0596.jpg

With this fitted the gear change is VERY short, even shorter than in the video. Personally I love it being this short, but if anyone felt it was too short you always have the option of keeping the standard arm at the gearbox end. So effectively you have the option of two stages with this shifter, you can make the change very short by fitting the shifter and the gear arm at the gearbox end, or you could just fit the shifter itself to make it as you saw in the video.

If anyone else is interested in these please keep adding your names to the list. These will also fit R5's, early meganes (need to check if they fit the later ones) and should also fit Mk2 clios however I intend to test the fitting on a Mk2 clio before selling them for the Mk2.

Just to let everyone know I have just fitted my short shifter the difference is amazing the gear changes feel so more positive alot quicker and no sloppy gear stick any more. Wasnt to hard to fit took around 2-3 hours but you need a set of circlip pliers. Which are very cheap but make the job a thousand times easier Over all one of the best mods I have done to the hybrid really does make a big difference.

I'm hoping for the 4th/5th September at the moment.

Part of the problem is that these are being manufactured to order so I have to wait on them being made after I order them. Once I can give a definate date I will do so but I am trying to get them asap.

Unfortunately the date has been pushed back by about a week, so it will probably be closer to the 11th September before I have them - sorry!!

Unfotunately as it is a large scale manufacturer I'm getting them from and I am only placing relatively small orders my orders get pushed down the ladder at times when they receieve larger orders from elsewhere. I am still trying to get them to speed things up though so fingers crossed.

If there are any changes in the schedule I will update this post, if I do not update it then the date above (11th September) still stands as the ETA.

Cheers.

OK folks, I hadn't realised how many people had put their name down but these have all been sold again. The finalised list from here and Clio16valver is:

2 Essexbiggzy
3 eltoastio
4 asfb2005
5 sk84life
6 topgeartom
7 C16vRB

17 Lunner
18 Dimma16v
19 Paul16v
20 Excudo

SIMONR85 - I'm afraid that you were the last person to add your name so I have had to take you off as I only have 20 availiable. Sorry about that, however as there is so much demand for these I will get another batch as well and start a new thread for it shortly. If anyone pulls out from the list above I will let you know.

All those that have put their name down I will PM you all a few days before the shifters are due to be delivered to arrange payment, that way I can then get them delivered to you even more quickly. As I said previously I hope to have these by 11th September and if payment is in by then I will get them posted out by next day delivery on the 11th/12th September.

PLEASE DO NOT PM ME ASKING ABOUT PAYMENT, I WILL PM YOU WITH DETAILS IN PLENTY TIME!!

(I only say this as I have been bombarded with PM's from people wanting to pay  )

Cheers.

Attempting to fit this now. Of course, you need to factor in seized bolts, rounded nuts, and rust falling on your eyes, but I'm sure I could have it done after a few days swearing at it. I hate Renaults.

3 bolts on the splash guard sheared off and one is seized and rounded off :(
