i have a 1.2 8valve clio mk1 1996 N reg RN prima. its quite big compared to the other mk1 clios out there and im thinking of sticking a 1.8 or 2.0 litre 16v engine in there.

is it possible ? and is it easy to do that ? will i need to do any alterations to the engine mounts or will it fit perfectly ?

thanks.

it will fit as all mk1 clio's have the same size engine bay
I don't know how easy it would be as I'm not sure what stuff inside the bay of a 1.2 would need replacing with valver bits

1.8 or 2.0 will drop straight in.

the only issues you may see are a bit of wiring.

get a 1.8 16v thats had a rear end or mot failure and transplant the whole front end.

subrame engine etc.

leave the bodywork standard with 1.2 badges.

sleeper

Just buy a 1.8 and save yourself the hassle...should be loads down your way for sale.

No.

You can get a 5 door 1.8 8v's though, although they are much slower (90bhp IIRC)

ahh right i was hoping for a 1.8 16v in a 5 door. i suppose the only way is to do an engine transplant ?

Why would you want a 5 door clio?

5 doors look minging!

What he said ^^^ lol

I think the 1.8 RSi is 110bhp though, not 90, so they're not far off a valver if the driver's a bit mad LoL

Aye, theres the RSI 1.8 8v which is 110 but they also did a 1.8 8v SPI pumping out 90bhp.

But what he said ^^ RSI might be another option if money is tight/there are no 16vs for sale...as quick as a 16v if done right.

hey guys, will a renault 19 engine 1.8 16v fit in a mk1 clio ? and if so is it recommended ?

can the manual gearbox which i have be used on a 1.8 16v engine ?

correct me if im wrong but i will have to change the dials aswell cos the one i have now doesnt show any revs and will it be easy to replace the dials and stuff ?

You can use your gearbox on a 16v engine.

R19 16v lump is basically identical to the clio one bar a few parts in which case you'll need to replace them with the clio bits (i.e. PAS pump and bracketry, engine mounts).

Think you'll need to get a clio loom to run it though.

R.E dials...they're just a straight replacment and you'll get a rev counter.

You can not auto a 16v engine.... the ECU for the gearbox cannae handle it lol

no i dont want to auto it i want to keep it manual . its still manual and i want a 1.8 16v manual engine. so was just curious if a renault 19 engine fit in my mk1 clio ?

Then the answer is yes, with a little work.

I would suggest, if you can, getting the clio 1.8 lump though to save yourself hassle...they're cheap enough to buy with everything you need.
