What a beauty! :)

Williams wide track conversion? The front wheels look wider than normal on a valver.

is this the one with spacers on the rear track?

JoaoC

Thank you for your comments! :D

Yes, it had spacers on all four wheels, installed by the previous owner. They are no longer on the car as prefer its handling without them.

I am thinking about doing a wide track conversion, do you know exactly which parts do I need? I know I need new wishbones, driveshafts and shocks...anything else?

you will need the anti roll bar+clamps/bushes for it too, can use the 16v rack, should wind out far enough for the widetrack.

This black one from Portugal is beautifull, reminds me alot of my black one, only that this one looks even better (well, mine had 210.000km under it`s belt when I rolled it).

I'm bringing this topic back from dead, lol. :D

A lot has happened in the past year, starting with a headgasket failure in September. Turns out that the chip that was installed was a very nasty one, and this was the result:

http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/5628/27092008032yq2.jpg

There were signs of massive overfueling, but they weren't the same on the 4 cylinders, so I had the injectors tested and they were rubish...had to recondition them.

While the head was out, some porting and polishing was done:

http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/9909/dscn3414nc2.jpg

Also got some Pipercams BP270H, and a supersprint exhaust manifold. All ordered from k-tec and quickly posted to Portugal. A very big thumbs up to them!

http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/7616/dscn3404mk7.jpg

Nearly done, only the cambelt missing:
http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/3848/img003gt0.jpg

Also had a full exhaust system made at a local exhaust specialist (no pics unfortunately), and had it remaped on a dyno.
http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/6750/afinaaoai6.jpg

The end result was 156hp @ 7200rpm, which is very nice for a 1.8 I think.

All done! :D

And against a mates 200hp Prelude 2.2 vti:

Since then I've been taking it to some track-days, and it's behaved beautifully, although I suspect that one of the driveshafts is about to die on me soon...

Latest mods were some Powerflex dogbone mount bushes and an OMP suede steering wheel (sorry about the very crappy phone pics)

And it's how it is at the moment. I've some surgery lately, so I haven't been able to drive for the past month...I miss it a lot. :(
Hopefully I should be back in the drivers seat in no time!

Cheers!

Are these as tough as the Renault Sport ones or are they slightly more flexible (causing less vibration)?

Amazes me the arches on these things in a hot climate. Shitty GB weather, .... Global warming FTW.

Thanks for the comments! :D

Its true, our relatively dry weather and the fact that it never snows in the area I live in have really helped keep the car in this condition.

I don´t know how tough is this dogbone mount compared to the renault sport ones, but i barely noticed any increase in vibration, and I have cams...I'm very pleased with it. :D

Amazes me the arches on these things in a hot climate. Shitty GB weather, .... Global warming is very good in my books.

:D :D :D Not everything is good though...Because cars are better kept and last longer, they also cost alot more. A decent valver will cost you here about 3000£ and a mint one is about 5000£...

Our crazy tax laws don't help either, back in 1993 a valver cost 20000£ so they're really rare around here.

Just a few years ago renault 4's had absolutely no value, but since then they seem to have become a collectors item, and their prices have gone up. Those that you saw probably had already been restored.

On different subject, I would like your feedback, since I should be moving to the UK a year from now. Since most of you have probably driven outside the UK, how do you find driving in the other side of the road? Is it hard do adapt or does it come naturally after a while?

I'm still unsure wether I should take my car there, or just buy another one. May very well have to take the bus for a while, lol! :D

keep that if you can mate.. be nice to have something like that over here.. but a word of warning..
our weather will rot the bollocks off it

JoaoC

I'm always keeping this one...I have already spent way too much on it to sell it, lol

Just unsure if I should take it with me, or leave it here at my grandparents house. If I leave it behind I'll only drive it a few times a year. The weather and rust, and the fact that it's left-hand drive make me want to leave it here though...

Still have a year to think about it...

Exactly the same as here in Malta. Very expensive & relatively old cars :/ Even if I buy myself a car from the UK and drive it overland here to Malta .. I would have to pay registration tax which is VERY expensive. The older the car and the higher its emmisions, the more expensive the tax is.

How do you find the k-tec manifold?? What were the results in terms of torque etc?

K-tec manifold is actually a Supersprint 4-2-1. I can't really say if it makes much diference because it was fitted at the same time as the cams and headwork. It does make a lovely sound and is much lighter than the original cast manifold.

I've heard people complaining about it cracking very easily, but I've had mine for nearly a year and 18000km and no problems so far.

I keep forgeting you guys drive on the wrong side of the car :P :P

Just dropped this off at the bodyshop:

http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/5158/capotr.jpg

It's a double skinned fibreglass one, very light, I'd say roughly 5kg. I'm having it repaired it and painted the same colour as the car to keep it looking tidy.
It uses the original mounting points, but i'm going to use 2 bonnet pins to keep it stable. Should be on the car in a few weeks :D

Also had a Laguna brake master cylinder fitted, so it now has a 23,8mm one. The system was bled with Motul RBF 660. The pedal travel has increased but it has more stopping power, especially at higher speeds. Just waiting for a set Mintex 1144 to arrive from the UK ( :P ) to finish the brake upgrades for now.

Thanks for looking! :)

i love it! looks a very nice example. where you get the uprated dogbone mount? k-tec?

JoaoC

I got the dogbone mount from an Ebay Shop called Energized Customs. It's just slightly cheaper than K-tec but the postage to Portugal was much cheaper than K-tec.

I had another track-day at a go-karting track, this time at Poiares, a very challenging track.
I got two Sparco bucket seats and 4-point OMP harnesses which really made a difference to my driving position. :D

Mechanically the car was spot on, but handling wise I found the car too understeery. May have had something to do with the tyres, some old Michelin rally slicks. I even managed to destroy the plies in one of them...

Now for the pics:
