as my starter will not turn the engine over i have a couple questions?

is the starter motor earthed by the bracket its bolted to?

i have tested for power and i have 12v on the thick cable which bolts to the starter, but is the white cable meant to have 12v going to it aswell?

Yes mate it earths onto the bell housing via the bracket. No wire. The white wire should have 12v's going to it as this it the low tension wire which operates the solenoid and pushes the starter motor gear out. Hope this helps.

ye great cheers.

i was jus looking earlier and the starter has 2 threaded bits coming out of the back going through the bracket that bolts to the block, but i havent put the bolts back onto it and im thinking the reason its not turning over is cause these bolts arent on earthing it.

might be...also you can get someone too hold a jump lead against the body and battery earth to test it that way..

white wire should only be 12v when the ignition key is held in the crank position.
