Smoke form a man who has all 3, how different is straight line speed between the hybrid and 172/182's?

You ask people on CS and you get the whole ****in mk2 brigade sayin the williams stands no chance!!!

But then bet most have never owned a williams so they cant really comment!!!

The 172/182 has 22/32 horsepower more then the williams....it's miles faster..well it must be surely...I mean it's got more power...right? A williams could'nt be faster ...could it...?Anyone who has been out from behind their keyboard and had a doo know the 172 and williams are evenly matched with invdividual cars being faster than others.... Oh and a hybrid should be faster than a stnd williams/172/182... :lol:

Actually they've only got c19/29bhp more.

Willy = 150/0.98 = 153bhp/ton
172 Cup = 169/1.021 = 165.5bhp/ton
172 = 169/1.035 = 163bhp/ton
182 = 179/1.09 = 164bhp/ton
182 Cup = 179/1.07 = 167bhp/ton

Martin

A 172 Cup is 70 kgs lighter than a full fat... :?

Swervin_Mervin

Yep. Those 182s got chunky. ukcar tried to tell me that they all weighed 1335kgs! :shock:

your listing only has them as 1035kgs...I'm pretty sure the power/weight of the 172 is the same as a willy.

Power tyo weight of a 172 in unquantifiable.

Nick Hill has weights crank shafts from different 172's and found a 6 lbs difference between one and another. 6lb!!!!. Thats huge for a rotating mass.

Also, different 172's have different inlet and exhaust port sizes depending on which factory supplied the parts.

So if you end up with two small ports and a heavy crank your 172 will be lucky to put out 155 BHP, but if you get the two large ports and the light crank you might make 175 bhp.

At least Williams engines are made with the same parts. :shock:

I reckon 1035 will be right. In the handbook for my dci80 the dci was down as 980kgs. And the dci lump is smaller and lighter than the 2L lump, plus you've got a few extras it wouldn't have had that the 172 had.

So why is the cup only 15kgs lighter? :? Spare wheels alone is that much..

I reckon the cup figure is out.

My 172 is listed as 1110. Cup is 89kg lighter. The 1035kg listed above is for the Mk1 172.

iirc off the top of my head the power to weight is similar to the willy - about 156 bhp/tonne.

Won't be as high as the 182.

Rather helpfully, renaulsport's site lists the 182 and 182 Cup as both being 1090kgs, whereas the Trophy is 1075!

So, we have.

172mk1 = 169/1.035 = 163.3bhp/ton
172mk2 = 169/1.110 = 152.3bhp/ton
172 Cup = 169/1.021 = 165.5bhp/ton
182 = 179/1.09 = 164.2bhp/ton
182 Cup = 179/1.07 = 167.3bhp/ton
182 Trophy=179/1.075 = 166.5 bhp/ton

Willy = 150/0.98 = 153.1bhp/ton

wtf the trophy is heavier than the cup, surely that cant be right?!

StevieP
21-06-2005, 16:32
The trophy has a bigger spoiler :P

I dunno, it has seperate/additional reservoirs on its shocks? Plus that trophy sticker must add a few kg's?! Do the bucket seats weigh more or less than normal cup seats? Plus it has digital climate control afaik?!

I raced a Williams 2 that apparently only had a cat-back exhaust, there was feck all in it really, I have an ITG panel filter & a de-cat. Williams' are fast, and I'm guessing more consistant than the Mark 2 RS range, dunno why some 172/182/Cup owners get so up-their-own-arses about their own cars.

Andyvalver

182's aint that quick. The one i raced today only pulled about 3 car lengths on me up to 110. On the bends i was back with him no probs. :roll:

What people forget with all this 0-60 talk and PWR talk is that there has to be a significant difference on paper to make a significant difference on the road.

cars 1/2-1s faster on paper can be kept up with dependant upon driver skill. It's only really vastly quicker cars that will piss on you.

Andyvalver

I must be skillful then :D
