Atleast I'm fairly sure it did

was driving down the M1 yesterday at about 20mph (traffic) when the car started surging. few moments later it cut out completely.

fuel pump wouldnt not prime/run at all. I probed around a bit with my multimeter - it was getting the 12v pulse to prime, but not priming. the earths were fine. there is a red wire leading into the pump too, which i thought was a constant live, but this was giving 0v (i've since checked this on MKR and that one is 0v too, so must be something else

anyway, i think its dead! (which might also explain my prior poor performance?)

few questions, I think it's a ph1 pump as its the same as my J plater - what pressure rating are these? if its a 1.2bar pump, is it likely to be stressed trying to fuel a 172 engine?

also, if it's a low bar pump, can i fit a higher pressure one? direct swap?

to take the pump out, do I need to drop the tank? :( haynes is telling me to take my exhaust etc off  - far too much effort! :D

I have a spare pump, but just looked at the rating at it says 1.2bar :( - but it looks different to the pumps in the cars already

heres a pic of the pump in the car

the first pic is your sender mate - not your pump. The pump is under the floor.

1st trick - take the sender out and rattle it abit. refit and see if that works before u drop your tank to get to the pump.

yeah as northy says mate, thats a phase 1 sender unit, the spare you have is a phase 2 sender and pump in one, see the extra fuel line connections :?:

if the sender parts isnt knacked, then its tank off time :(

my fuel guage still works fine, if that helps?

i'll need to make up a peg spanner to remove it :( - and i have a serious case of 'cant be arsed' right now :(

u can use a pair of long nose plyers

Squeeze the split ends together and turn to loosen

can run an uprated pump fine..pressure is controlled elsewhere....

as stated above need to remove the tank or cut a second hole in the floor...

yes mate ended up dropping the rear axle on mine as two rearmost bolts snapped and needed to get a drill in there to remove them but should be able to do without really..replaced all the bolts 5 iirc with stainless allen headed ones in case it ever needs to come out again. :D

if your not too bothered about how mint the car is you may aswell cut a hole in the floor then rivet a plate over it once your done, thats all i've done anyway

Did this on my J plate last summer!

You can just use a big flat headed screwdriver to hammer that plastic ring round.

Backbox + that curvy bit before it needs to come off, as well as handbrake cables need to be disconnected! The tank bolts can be a bit of a bitch I bought new bolts from renault on re-fitting.

Its not terribly difficult just time-consuming, can do it in a day easily!

i'll remove the exhaust then - is it just the backbox and elbow joint? midpipe can stay?

I'm not cutting a hole in my car!! so i'll deffo drop it

where are the bolts located?

do i need it on axle stands?

Only had to take the backbox off and elbow joint, can maneuver the tank round the mid section.

Need axle stands probably on quite a high setting, I just disconnected the handbrake cables from the centre bit didn't take long to do that.

Also you'll need new clips because as far as i remember some of the clips have to be broken off so I bought a pack of assorted jubilee clips to use for refitting.

If you look at the clips on the picture of your fuel sender unit, they are the ones that have to be replaced on refitting.

Also mark which pipes goes where and through which route cause it was a pain in the ass trying to remember which pipe connected where. Or take pics.
