That's pretty good! They were £90 the other week!!

I had to ebay and get a last-of-stock one for £53!

They don't get much cheaper than that, maybe a tenner, but prices vary quite dramatically so you may as well bite the bullet lol

Mytyres are usually the cheapest whenever I'm looking around (although Camskill occasionally have some deals on).

How many tyres do you need?

Have you considered going to 195 50 15, as they're only £43 a corner?

Sorry, I've just noticed that you want the older GS-D2's. (I didn't think they sold them anymore!!). They only list the 195 50's in the newer GS-D3 design.

Is there much difference in design?

Not a fat lot - You CAN tell them apart, though. They both have the same 'V' tread pattern. I guess it's just like most products - They just get revised over time.

195 50's are a lot cheaper, though (as they're a very common size), plus they're only 1.5% too fast (eg. you'll actually be travelling 59mph when your speedo reads 60mph). The sidewalls are slightly smaller (3.8" Vs 4"). The 195 50's will give you better acceleration & a sharper turn in.

Thanks Ivor.

I am running Turbine alloys at mo, not Willy wheels. Mine are only 6.5" rather than 7". Much difference?

195's on 7J would be ideal. However, I used to run 195/45 16's on my old valver in 2001, but I can't remember if they were 6.5J or 7J x 16"??

ps My Mk4 Golf runs 205/55 16's on a 6.5J wheel as standard, so can't see there being a problem with 195 on a 6.5J wheel. In fact, my old 306 GTi-6 ran 195/55 15's on a 6.5J wheel.

I've not driven on proper 195s but the 185/55 F1s I've run for the past few years seem to get 'wider' as they wear, due to the tread pattern and the way the tyre is constructed.

When you swap the old, worn tyres for new ones with lots of tread (that are 'thinner') the handling goes from "a bit flat-footed" to full of feeling and adjustability again, therefore I'm convinced that running 195s kills some of the delicate handling characteristics!

And, besides, GSD2 pattern is way betterer than GSD3 :P lol

Hehe! Cool. Just debating whether I should get two new fronts, as I need to get the tracking and balancing done very soon anyway and the front tyres are mismatched ones that came with the car!

idealy you should have the axles matching.

43quid @ mytyres for the 195/50 gsd3 f1's (what i run)

http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/reifenbestellen.pl?typ=D39104&dsco=10

Then you'll need to add ~15quid per tyre for fitment etc.

Black circles are coming out with a price of 38quid per tyre at the moment for mail order, plus 10quid delivery fee to total order, so not a bad price, works out same price as buying from mytyres for two.
