EvoUk :: The breakdown for events ~~
Entry fee for a single venue ,airfield type events ~ Angelsey etc between £200 and £220 ~~,Weeton Army stages £210.
Tyres ~~ how competitive do you want to be,People in front wheel drive, tend to put new ones on the front, run the stages and put them on the back .
You need the ARDS test etc ~~ I am not 100% on this, but most Rally Schools are licenced etcetc.
Forget Mk11 Escorts,to be competitive you need a big potof cash ~~ The ones on our event ~~ 2.4 Duratecs ~~ 250/270bhp with paddle shift sequentials,5 linked, huge brakes etc etc.
Evogone has done brilliantly on the two events I have seen him, although /I did think It sat rather low at the rear ~~~ For the rougher stage events Weeton,Twyford Wood,Manby etc On Pure smooth Tarmac ~~ the Clio,is as good as owt.Bear in mind the "special" competion bits are very expensive.
But most things can be made.
To bring yours up to MSA rally approval ~~ you will need to look in the MSA Blue book, and it will tell you under car regulations etc etc.
Basically Rollcage,FIA dated harness seat belts,external/internal battery master and plumbed in fire extinguisher switches/cable pulls,Tank guard, plus others
Go to the Msa web site ,it will tell you on there
If you need anything else ~ feel free to get in touch ~ Rod

Thanks,

What about the gearboxes do they stand up well or do you need a full on straight cut sequential!!!?

I shall have to keep an eye on evogones progress.

Just enquiring about costs at the moment though.

Are single event stage rallies the cheapest to compete in?

Clio cup to rally car???

Cost are the same as trackdays in terms of car wear / tyres / trailoring etc. Entry fees are the same as a trackdays.

The main cost is the upfont costs:-

If a Cup car.

£100 - Registering / taxing your car (V5 - registration) - Pain in the ass.
£500 - Getting the car RAC logbooked - do it this year as the rules change next year and it will be an arse. Tank guards / FIA indate seat and belts / Fire extinuishers system in date. and a few other bits and bobs.
£300 - Comp licence a (you will need to complete and ARDS test)
£250 - Race suit

Different suspension if you want to do other venues as there are only a handful that suit the cup car.

I can recommend it and when your started then it just the same costs as trackdays...!!!

How do you get the car rac log booked and whats changing next year?

What is the usual routine, does he co driver need any licence and do they pay some of the costs? Is it shared etc

Thanks

You just need to be sensible on the gearbox. If you hammer the box then it will break eventually. Sadev box is the one to have but 2-3k for good SH one. Mine has been fine the problems start when you do event where the surface is broken up a bit but for Angelsey / 3 sisters / Prom stages should be fine. Only thing that would help would be to lower the final drive to get better exceleration. Only ever got into 4th a couple of times.

Big thing is a LSD essential, not got on fitted yet but this alone should give a second a mile which mean 5 plus place overall in an event.

Get your car logbooked (adds value) as you dont see cheap rally cars anymore there value is going up .!! You can do a few smooth event a year and see where you want to go from there ?

Next one for me is the New Brighton Prom stages (wicked high profile event) 6R4s and WRC cars...!!

Do it..

Get an RAC started pack (£50) - You get a MSA rule book and all the application forms and info on the ARDS course you will have to complete. I have one unused if you want it.

Co driver need a licence and all the safety stuff aswell. Regards cost then a normal rule is co-driver pays the entry fee and the driver everything else.

Next year there are minimum weight of cars and more things you will have to sort. More hassel and not applicable if your already logbooked.

More than happy to help you out if you decide to push the button.

Simon :~ I have done this event several times :~ but latterly I have given up   ~~~ Mainly due to what I personally call "irresponsible attitudes" from fellow competitors in some crews.
For example after being being seeded at car 70 ~~ which itself is a joke ~~ having had top ten finishes !!!!   .After stage 3 we were lying 11th overall   .So one would expect we are reasonably quick !!!!  .So why do the slower crews DELIBERATELY prevent you from getting past them !!!!  .thus causing us to drop time.
Another instance,we were approaching a split/merge at close on 100mph,and oh dear   ,guy leaving the start line pulls out directly in front of us ~~ result left the track, bent axle, two f@@ked wheels, bent suspension about £1400 of damage ~~ again all because the guy ~~ did not look in his mirror ~~ we had taken 30 seconds out of this guy on the previous stage ~~ that his why we were in front of him !!!
Is it me or what ~~~ This guy could had nothing to gain by holding us back !!

So basically I have given up going there,As I fear an almighty accident is around the corner

Plus it is getting very rough, with potholes appearing every where, not the ideal for a Tarmac spec. car.
Rant over.
If you go early enough, you might be able to get in.Or offfer to Marshal ~~ You will definitely get in then

So were talking:

Fuel guards
sump guards
up to date extinguisher
up to date seats and harness
pull switches on outer car for fire and electrics

RAC LOGBOOKED - 9how do you get car done)
Is above like a MOT?

Timing equipment in car?

Can you have poly rear screens?

Plus

Co-driver operated horn
Battery isolated (unless it a sealered RED TOP one)
Sure there are a few others

from 2009

You also need mudflaps
a dry break contected in the fuel file so you can take fuel samples
and a few other bits

You need to find a local scruitineer from the RAC blue book (one in my started pack if you want the pack), there are loads listed. You call them up and arrange a time to view the car (usually very helpful) and when you have all the bits sorted then ask them round they will inspect it and they will take the details and you will get issued a logbook for the car (you will need to take a picture of it at 45degrees from the front as this goes in the log book).

You can have poly glass must be 4mm plus.

No need for timing gear unless your doing bigger events.

When you next out in the car ?

cars going to AP STANS next week to sort out the trumpets and for a remap to try and find the lost bhp..long drive down but hopefully worth it.

I have not booked any event yet.

Is there any other forums dedicated to rallying, clubman rallying?

Am currently working out if it would be best to convert the clio cup car to rally spec or sell it and start a new project and build a car from shell up, nova, corsa or similar as bro in law is vauxhall mad so can build me a good engine.

Just researching various forums at the moment and i need to sort out a navigator/co driver to see if there interested.....

I have a car trailer so thats one thing less to worry aboiut.

Would just want to do single venue tarmac rallies, say 3 or 4 a year max...

:D

Evo :~ TBH to build a car from scratch ~~ can be well expensive, you can get a fully "prepped" 205/Astra or similar for reasonable money.

The problem with using the Clio's is the cost of the "special" competition parts
~~ as apart from suspension, wheels and the normal stuff,no~one does the bits.LSD's,proper engine mounts etc etc.
If yours is a Cup car,you will be ok with it as it is ,for the 3/4 events you intend to use it for, providing you are selective on events ~ is smooth tarmac.
In the late 80's I bought a 5gt Turbo ex~race car,did quiet well with it as it was,~~ but not on rough events.
You will still need all the safety/MSA regulations apertaining to the car etc.Whichever way you choose to go.
I hope this helps
Rod.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes i have been trawling the net and found some good priced 205, novas that have been built from scratch, seem welded, good shells and all the right bits ready to go.

Reason i was considering nova, 205 is like you said there are loads of motorsport parts available already like gripper diffs and quaiffe boxes etc. Also the cup car i have has history and wouldnt like to see it wrecked!!!

On single venue events what are the class structures like, is it all on engine size?

Im not bothered about where i come in the rankings at the moment i will just be in for the fun!!!!

5k gets you a dog of a car..... or a mint std spec 205. One from scatch will cost you ££££££ and you want get it back.

Stay with the clio and just do certain events, its a very competitive car and for the money carnt beat it. My Cup car has been great and theres probabley 8/9 event a year just in the ANWCC championship that the cars great for as is.

Get it logbooked and do a few events.

All engine size on the class structures, regards to being able to get load of bits then yes thats true but alls a cup racer needs is a diff - Gripper / Quaife 800 quid then you have a good competitive car. Trust me you will need a few event before the car is the limiting factor. There will always be 260 hp escorts in your class (30-40k for a good one) but hey im getting close on top 10 overall stage times in the dry, even without the diff..!!

If you want any help advise or want to see my car then just give me a call more than happy to get you started etc.
