Is the steering rack in a Williams 2 the same as a 16v?

Have recently had mine replaced at my local garage. They fitted the Renault supplied track rod ends, and now can't get the tracking on the car correct as the track rod ends won't wind out far enough.

Not sure now whether the steering rack is wrong or the track rod ends.

I've owned the car for ten years and it is completely standard.

Any clues?

Pete

the rods ends are different but i think the rack is the same...at least the main part is the williams might have longer steering arms and the track rods are different..

but there's a few on here running a valver rack with willy widetrack without problems just by winding them out a little further..

Thanks Maxi

Problem is the garage say that they can't wind the rod ends out any further safely, and the tracking is still out. I drove the car two miles from the garage to home and it drives like a dog - the tyres wouldn't last a week!

Can anyone post a part number or detailed information about the rod ends they are using with a 16v rack, as Renault don't seem to know.

i've just wound out the track rod ends on mine

still got enough thread left in the arms - not ideal, but it seems to work

I think the early rod ends can be wound out, but the later ones with the 8 or 10mm locknut wont wind out as far?!?!
Have always wondered if 19 ones would fit...
