View Full Version : Seized lambdas
This is annoying me lol! Lambda wont budge! Need to replace it...any suggestions?
if its seized then proberly the best option is to get some heat on the nut(welded to downpipe) and try free it off!
the best way is to use a pair of decent mole grips
Used a ring spanner on mine. Get a pole or something you can put on the end of a spanner to get more leaverage. Mine was threaded and was hard to get out!

ohh did he mention he got a downpipe for sale ?? :P
Well, it wont budge and I used some serious leverage! I put my toys away for the day having done several other jobs. Beaten again, temporarily, but a seized item! Thermo housing botls rounded off as well...again. That design is crap.
WD-40 FTW !!
lol enough to sink Titanic already!
WD-40 FTW !!
WD-40 is shit, its a moisture dispersant whihc happens to ahve lubrcating and penetrating properties.
Plus gas is the gear you're after for loosing seized bolts
Heat is probably your best bet, i wouldnt try too much muscle, might snap it off
as above, WD40 is no use at all really
you need Plus Gas
personally i bought a downpipe
Sod it lol, I'll leave it for a bit if I have too, but I have been kindly offered a downpipe so may take that option!

TBH, on aklot of them, no ammount of heat or effort will remove them.
Likely I would just replace the d/p, or if you can, cut the existing nut/boss off, drill the remaining sensor out, then weld a new M18 nut on.
Ive done this a couple of times,
but its easier just to buy a new d/p.

How much is a new d/p?
I was having the same problem last night. Between football matches I'm off out to remove the d/p so I can fight with it without losing skin on other sharp bits of car  Cutting the wiring should allow me to put a deep socket on it and I'm hoping that will do the job.
Had to use an angle grinder to get the center section off, what is it with French cars and rust?

dipped in brine as they leave the factory

What I did to get mine off:
Remove downpipe
Take an angle grinder to remove the top half of the lambda sensor
Put a deep 22mm socket over the rest of the sensor
Attach a torque wrench to this
Attach an extension bar to this
Turn sensor out while being surprised the welds hold up
Always nice not to have to buy unnecessary parts :)
Use a ring spanner, attach the open end to the nut, put the jack handle through the ring for extra leverage. Use it at a slight angle. Should give you plenty leverage. Do this with some heat.

Step ahead of ya there!
Maybe just sawing the top off and using breaker bar would do it hehe. I am sure I'll snap the whole thing off.
