Not wanting to start a 16v versus 172 fighting talk here (OK, maybe a little). So, how does clean16's car stack up against other highly-modded N/A 172/182s on cliosport?

Also, from the vids, why don't the cars at York pre-rev the engines at start lines?

clean16v
20-06-2005, 12:27
what highly modded 172'/182's? Its the most powerful, and fastest N/A clio fullstop, bar the V6, and that only has more power.
The fastest time for a 172/182 is 13.9 down the strip, the fastest for a MK1 is the mythical 13.8 clio on T/B's

Some quality vids there.

What you going to do for more power now Martin?

Thought there was also a TBody 172, or maybe it was a turbo job - have to re-read again.

Anyway, 13.7s in hot weather is really good. Maybe some dry ice in July? That's a WRX trick they use here (Singapore), plonking a bag onto the intercooler. Though no sure where to put it in a Clio.

Didnt look that much faster than Martins car. £££££ gets you a 1/4 of a car length.
Couple of points oh novice of 1/4 miling. Firstly, 1/4 of a car is a lifetime down the strip. Secondly, if you compare both the runs with martin you will notice his awesome start start in the second vid, and therefore my car needed to reel in and pass it, in the first video, where my start was as good, i'm out of the picture by the end of second

J o n
20-06-2005, 13:50

Clean 16v, can you get any more out of that engine? You hot on the heals of the clio tt's 12.9 :D

KingStromba
20-06-2005, 14:27
12.9. Now thats a time.

clean16v
20-06-2005, 14:31
seconded, at least try and be clever about it Stromba.
Andy, a lot more could come out of the engine, but not sure if it will, the cams aren't dialled in 100% because of the standard bottom end...if it could rev to even 7.5k it would be a lot faster, its slightly dropping out of the power zone on upshifts at the minute.
It will see 13.5's in ideal conditions and some high octace fuel.....

J o n
20-06-2005, 14:32
12.9. Now thats a time.

really? i thought a cynic like yourself would have said something along the lines that it's crap, it's not a Clio engine... it's been done with a nigh on 300bhp turbo engine... etc etc? i'd say for 80bhp less and being N/A 13.7 in 32 degree heat is awesome... in fact everyone but you would... funny that...

Andyvalver
20-06-2005, 14:34
Lol^^ fight!

Good time anyway mate. I must get down to pod when you lot go.

J o n
20-06-2005, 14:38
lol @ Andy, i'm just surprised at KS that's all... he's normally smarter than this in his attempted wind ups... come on Rob, say what you think mate... i'm sensing this is what is really meant:

"this is my best indirect effort at slagging a said member of this forum off and belittling his work. as I have already said I dont do this and been victim to my own hypocrisy I feel that this is the only way to do it without looking a complete fool... your faithfully, the king of hot air."

Cheers Andy, the next outing will be at Pod in July, been talking to Matt (Clio TT) on ways of improving my times so should be a good day, try and show some of the R5 boys up!
no doubt Martin and Jon will be in the 13's too, they are not far off at all and for standard inlet thats fookin awesome

KingStromba
20-06-2005, 14:44
My point is:

If i was interested in handling i would buy a small fwd hot hatch car and spend money on the suspension and brakes

If i was interested in 1/4 miling (which appears to be the case) i would buy a RWD or 4WD car with a turbo and tune the engine on that.

Wrong tool, wrong job. Hence only 13.9.

clean16v
20-06-2005, 14:52
13.7 actually. And the car can still go around corners, hence keeping it N/A and not turbo'ing it. If i wanted straight line speed, i'd have just spent the money on my S3, nice IHI roller bearing turbo, FMIC, 360 BHP.
The suspension and brakes are equally as impressive as the engine, Williams track and coilovers, 4pots being fitted ASAP.
It's not a question of what you like anyway dude, it isn't your money or time.
You are interested in winding people up from your desk at work, attempting to belittle other people, and spend money on steroids and polishing all the nuts and bolts on your Williams. Now personally, i think you are a penis for doing these things, but you never hear me air my views.
Wrong tool, wrong job, thats like buying a Clio williams, and using it to pootle to the steroid shop.

Andyvalver
20-06-2005, 14:53
Only a 13.7 lol. Yeah thats shit, lol. I think the people on like to suprise the people in faster cars. Show them that a little clio will whoop them.

If your not bothered about speed stromba, do you fancy swapping enigines with me :D

J o n

My point is nothing, other than an attempt to wind people up.

If i was interested in handling i would buy a small fwd hot hatch car and spend money on the suspension and brakes and then drive it like an old woman but be opinionated on subjects I have no experience in none the less.

If i was interested in 1/4 miling (which appears to be the case) i would buy a RWD or 4WD car with a turbo and tune the engine on that, as there's no point 1/4 miling clio's, even if you do enjoy it, want to know how quick your car is and enjoy the social apect of it all... losers...

Wrong tool, wrong job. Hence only 13.9... damn, i meant 13.7, sorry, i cant count, it serves no purpose in science anyway

Is coolant meant to be brown? Or just on 1/4 mile cars?

clean16v
20-06-2005, 15:08

Whats your problem with 1/4miling again?

J o n
20-06-2005, 15:23
he's not done it, or has no interest in it... basically anything he doesn't like or agree with is enough to attempt to ruin a thread... hence the brown coolant thing he's going on about now... although no one mentioned brown coolant except Stromba... so he must mean 0002 or 0200 has poo in the cooling system?

I think the White Willy looks good anyway, a welcome break from the norm imo... i'm surprised KS hasn't changed the looks on his as he hates having something the same as everyone else :o

Andyvalver
20-06-2005, 15:29
Ive not done a proper 1/4 yet. Went to pod a few months back with a few off rsc. Wanted to run but it was packed and couldnt be arsed to que. Also, my gearbox packed up not long after so it was probably a good thing i didnt. Now ive got me box sorted i wanna go again

Stromba, it must be a North/South thing. Up here you put up or shut up, idle caht amkes no difference to anything, its called BIG CHAT, anyone can talk big, but acting is very different. You got a fast 1/4 mile car? 1/4 it, fast around corners? track it. Little willy? stop taking steroids.
