I have recently refitted my engine in my williams and now have an issue with it overheating.

It starts fine and runs but once it gets hot i get steam coming out of the water/header tank and this runs dry?

don't think the fan is cutting in either?

Any ideas?

Probably the temp sensor in the radiator. Take the plug off, shortcircuit the ins and the fans should start. If it does not normally do this by the 2nd bar on the temp guage them the sensor if faulty. Remove, replace.

Do you not have a cap on your coolant bottle?

Check the oil cap for mayo if you are loosing coolant from an unknown leak.

When was yer cooling system last flushed? Is it brown rusty coolant or a good colour? Did yiou get the antifreeze mixture right? Check all hoses for obvious leaks, all round the cylinder head, radiator, thermo housing. Lastly check the fllor of the passenger footwell for a heater matrix leak.

I do have a cap on my coolant bottle.

I will go over everything and check there are no leaks. there is no mayo under the oil cap?

Hopefully my heater matrix has not split?

i will update

yea it could be the thermostat. take it out and drop it in a bowl of boiling water, it should open, if not it needs replacing
