oil pressure

hi all, what is the normal oil pressure for a good engine? mine is about 3.5 bar in normal driving conditions

is this good/average/bad?

can the oil pressure give any indication of the condition of certain aspects of the engine then?

3 bar on cold startup is quite healthy and normal from what little I know. Pressure will drop as the oil heats up.

Mine used to drop to 0 when proper hot but I noticed no difference. I've recently put new gaskets on everything, new oil filter etc etc so it will be interesting to see what it's at now when it finally works.

The type of oil used will affect the pressure too.

my pressure on start-up is prob nearer to almost 4 bar...

Could be the type of oil used, different type of oil filter or some other reason, whats it like when warm?

I doubt it's anything to worry about.

when warm of the top of my head i think its anywhere between 2 and 3.5 depending on how fast im going.

when im driving it from start-up it goes up to around the 5 mark

5 is high from what I understand. There are a lot of threads on the site which should be able to help you, in detail, about this. 2.5-3.0 Bar is fine.

higher the better tbh, 5bar on cold idle and 1bar warm idle for me, 3-4 bar normal driving when warm. thats with 10w 40 fully synth oil

My engines a touch strange, cold idle it sits on just 2bar ! But it never ever drops below 1 bar, no matter how hot the oil gets.

i think as mine does they will run from 6 bar cold to 1 bar hot. when very new.

any where above 2.5 bar up to a standard 3.0 to 3.5 average when cold is fine.

can seem to lose all pressure sometimes at hot idle but as long as it goes up with revs its usually fine. oil can make a difference in some cases..

Mine does this but doesn't seem to cause it any problems.

From cold mine runs 4bar.when hot it runs 1.5 bar at idle and 5 bar when running over 3600 rpm mind you i have jacked the oil pump.
