I have been thinking about where to put my oil drain for my turbo now as my original plan to put it in the top of the sump at the back wont work as the oil level is to high.

The thought of drilling and tapping into the bottom of the block doesnt really fill me with confidence but it can be done, i was just wondering if anyone can forsee a problem running a long hose round the front of the sump and draining into here, as the oil level is lower due to the angle of the engine.

the main thing im concerned about is will a long run of hose really make that much difference?

cheers

i would have thought it would be fine...
are you going to be running an oil cooler? (PLUG)

I would suggest going into the block tho... one one side there is a bit that looks blanked off.. shouldnt be too hard with hand tools to drill it out and tap it for a hose barb, if you want to keep fitting very simple. Im sure this is what maxi did.

mines tapped through the block itself in the back, but i think its been done using the oil level sensor hole and loosing that sensor before so should be fine run it round that far so long as it goes downhill the whole way

cheers boys, yes andy i am running an oil cooler, one of yours infact :) i think i know the blank your talking about cos i think this is where coops and neils are, which is pretty much the perfect location.

feck it i may aswell just drill the block makes things so much easier any special precautions other than going slow to stop it from cracking?

use a sharp drill, dont let it get mega hot, but it shouldnt crack!

I've got mine like that. With just the pipe by itself oil won't return all the way to the front of the block by itself, so I had to add an oil scavange pump. The only reason I did this is because I couldn't take the engine out at the time so I had to do everything with the engine in situ.

Much simpler and cheaper to drill a hole in the back of the block.
