Getting a rounded-off sump plug out?

Well, having finally stopped faffing and got the thing up on axles stands (after being slightly worried about how the jack appears to be putting massive dents in the underside coating) I then couldn't get the sump plug out as it's rounded off. :? :x :(

Has anyone got any recommended techniques for getting it out? I can't see a way to do it as even drilling it won't work, will it?

Also, if anyone has a part number for a new one then that would be great...

you mean the square in the plug has gone round mate....

use mole grips on the outer edges or hammer a piece or bar in an undo using an adjustable spanner.

Yeah, the hole that the 8mm bit goes into has rounded off a bit so it just doesn't turn, and the more you try the more it rounds off... :roll: :(

I had thought about the hammering a bigger bit in technique but the next one up in my halfords socket set is a 10mm! Dammit! lol

Will have to try the molegrips thing.

My first thought was Mark Fish as he's not far away but labour time would be £££ to sort it out, which would be a waste if I can do it myself!

Will have to persevere...

if you have access to a bench grinder and an old 3/8" extension bar... you can probably understand what to do now! lol

Good ol Hammer and chisel/screwdriver technique is something all Renault fixers must master!
