View Full Version : ROLLING ROADED AND WELL ****ED OFF!!!

Had the clio roaded today and well pissed at the results it started at only 140bhp and after we had a few tweeks we got it to 165bhp @ the fly wheel-thats really shit considering its a 2.0f7R,piper 270 cams, verniers timed correctly!and a full prima racing bike carb conversion which are off a kawazaki 1100 zzr which run 40mm chokes.
but it runs a valver manifold as hill power told me to stick with that for the low down torque + a side exit-is this causing a restriction or lack of back pressure???
so **** it its up for sale-going to stick with turbo power i think
any other thoughts on my SHIT figures?? :(

which rolling road was it?

Its a local well respected garage-bloke that did it seemed to no his stuff on ign timing, carb settings etc etc

1 i found vavlermanifold SHIT dotn care wat anyone says its shit ive used it, and once i swapped to meggy 4-2-1 ,anifold its alot better in the higher rpm and still feels the same lowdown.

but still my std williams engine is more powerfull that that sumthing deffo isnt right! pissible carbs not set up correctly?

Daz.
15-04-2008, 17:57
Thats pretty poor to say my std willy was 137bhp at the wheels somethings deffo amiss there.

Did you have it tested before the mods? have you got a power graph?

dont pay much attnetion to rolling road figures
they can lie.

Stick the car on the 1/4 mile straight and find out what your exit speed is
then compare that to what it would be as standard.

some how you will be able to work out the cars true power from the exit speed.

as for the side exit...i tried this on a N/A williams...fooking useless. back pressure was all screwed up and the car was far to sluggish. borrow someone elses exhaust set up and see what diff that makes.
but seriously ignore the rolling road and try it on the strip.

got the print out of it all plus print outs from the probe up the exhaust.
the carbs are brand new and jetted up for my engine and balanced
the bloke who dynoed it said the carbs are running well i.e set up + i spoke to prima previous the rr and he said the carbs shouldnt need much tweeking as there all ready set up.
my rs turbo put out 242bhp and 272 lb ft-std rods head, valves and cam just low comp std pistons, big intercooler big turbo and 26psi boost thats it

would say appx 150mm ish as im still running std rad.
must say the car is very very lively tho feels more like 165 atw

thats way too short really, and thats typically why people dont see what they want when they fit carbs/bodies.

Typicallly on a ITB set-up you have about 300mm...thats about the max which will fit with a std bonnet.

try fitting longer trumpets.

as said change the exh as Midge had a side exit on his car and it ran like shit, Hardly any back pressure. he changed it to a normal shape system and all was well again :)

105epwr
17-04-2008, 20:05
well this is it,its very tasty on the roads i also run a chipped valver and it would chew that.
when coming back from the rr session i wound it up i mean 1st,2nd its all over the road with torque steer,my brother followed me and he even said it sounds and looks really quick! :?

what were you expecting from it?

105epwr
17-04-2008, 21:03
what were you expecting from it?
I would of been happy with 190 at the flywheel so i was exspecting around those figures really maybe even 200 at the fly.

christ only 165bhp atf for all that work :(

There was a clio16valver rolling road day a few months ago, needless to say a lot of upset people over figures considering all the money they spent into tuning headwork etc. Mine managed 180bhp ATF thats with a cheap port job and megane inlet valves, std cams, well chuffed lol.

i was well impressed when it made that summeh, stunning engine 8)

I thought your cylinder head was done at portformance summeh? If it was the owner did something right because they are the most expensive price ive had so far lol

what torque does yours make mate?

Matt16v was at that r/r with a rough looking williams1, and a proper slag sounding engine i'd built..
that made 185bhp and 150lb.ft torque. same torque figure as a Sodemo race engine costing £13500 :D making 190bhp.

I think INITIALLY he was disappointed, as he was focussing on PEAK POWER figures but when you consider the above comparison, it puts it in perspective, especially when he beat everything he raced lol. he said from the start it was very fast.

Once again, we need to differentiate between an engine making impressive LOOKING peak figures, and one which makes a fast car i.e one making good torque spread.

where can these manifolds be had from?

lad with a prima 2.1 lump and kawasaki carbs made 185atf iirc at hill power few months back when i was there

prima have them custom made by a local company-must admit a very neat proper job.weather he will sell them seperate cos i mentioned about sourcing half the parts for the conversion my self but he said "not interested in supplying half a kit"!

Oh i think i might be getting confused with evouk's cup car. Did that have portformance headwork before his new lump? Sure one of the cup cars had it lol

Damm, i hope you get it sorted.

My williams lump made 171bhp@fly at hillpower the same day as that carbed one thats been mentioned and im pretty sure its level of tune isnt that high!

We're talking about my Williams here Dave. The head job was done by BenR @ AWT. 180bhp and 155lb/ft.

My Cup car which you are thinking about was done by PortFormance, which makes 175bhp and 155lb/ft.
