if its the clio cup ones.. stay away.. the map on the cups were designed to coincide with the balanced/strengthened engine, revving so highly on a standard engine will not do it any good. I have spoken to the seller about this, and his reply was.. well only rev it as high asn you want it to go..lol thats a silly statement, as im sure many of you on here regularly bounce the needle off the limiter! lol

:)

I've been looking at that too. The chap selling them said the engines were blueprinted.

Not having £300-odd quid lying about at the mo' to buy a properly mapped chip I was going to try one of those 'Clio Cup' ones. I rarely go up to the limiter anyway. Unless someone gives me a really good reason for not getting one (like it's a actually a calculator chip and it'll turn my car into a Casio, or something) I'll try it and let you know.

When you keep on hitting the rev limiter have you any idea of the grief the bottom end goes through with crank whip etc?
Do not knock something until you try it.

lol.. obviously george its you that is selling them.
i am knocking it because:

1) the chip isnt mapped to an individual car
2) the rev limit is ridiculous
3) there is no proof that the chips came from a clio cup,
4) blank chips are less than 5pence.
:-p

Gunner i thought that they were not mapped to individual cars in cup racing anyway? Sealed ecu running the same programme for all cars?

thats rubbish, there were many teams in clio cup racing...i very much doubt all the teams ran the same ecu lol... if no one can provide a review.. i will buy one and review it myself.

Im pretty sure they did run the same ecus. Same reason as they had to run the same standard brakes and weight.

All cup race cars has sealed ecus'. They were altered ecu's but all ran the same one. Renault sourced out the programming anf then distributed the sealed ecus to the teams (i beleive).

Nick wouldnt waste his time answering questions on here after the shit he gets.

Here is the answer.
For the first three years of the Clio Cup championship competitors were free to use whatever chip they wanted to. All of the teams that ran our engines used our chip that we developed on the dyno and on the track (the basis for our own stage 1 chip). Other competitors and engine builders also used our chips, as at the time we were one of the few who had the capability and equiptment to re map. The first two championships winners used our chips.
For the remainder years of the championship Renault supplied all competitors with the same chip in a sealed ECU which they swapped from car to car team to team during the year.
I would imagine that this is the chip that is being offered on the internet.
If it is a gunuine Cup chip it may not run all of the emmision and idle controls and will probable only work in an early type ECU.
So as the rest of you I am waiting to see!!!!

Nick Hill.
The Clio Cup ran from 91-95 with unsealed ECU,s.
Your engines, chips never came close to running at the front of the field.
Remember a guy called Mick Penney?
Hence the user name penneyduck.
Remember a team caled Gerard Motorsport?
For the public, quote your Clio Cup Championship results.
