Took mate to southend yesterday to pick up a car. left ipswich at 3pm got there at around 4.45 . did the deal , started heading back with a bit of pace as i was taking missus out for meal in the evening and sods law i hit the a12 and it was Q's as far as i could see .10 mins crawling and stopping i notice temp is very high . 10 mins later and the light is on . 5 mins later smoke pissing out of my bonnet and some gibbon in an escort next to me shouting " oi mate i think summits up with you car ". After my snappy " DO YOU THINK ? " he crawls off and lucky for me the bloke behind offers to push me to hard shoulder.

Now after crossing a field and finding a garage i get back to me car with water and coolant . when i take the top off. more water rises in the expansion tank and its the darkest water ive ever seen in a coolent system . obiously it hasnt been flushed this century and as a result it nearly boils over again but i just managed to get through the traffic and my temps dropped.

my rad is fine looks pretty new tbh but any one guess what im doing today ? lol

anything i got to watch while flushing the system on a clio ? any one else over heated recently ?

sorry about the long story there ....

mines not been overheating as such, jus gettin a l'il warm lol..finally put a switch on the rad fan

mines ok when moving, but hit a bit of traffic n see the temps rise ...thought it was the rad fan switch.no joy..thermostat, several flushes etc...nothing. fan wouldnt work, bridge the switch with no ignition, and the fan cuts in, turn ignition on fan stops....weird.....traced it to a diode hehe....when iv pulled the manual rad switch out n reconnected evrything back to normal, il see if that was the prob lol

Mine had a similar problem jon after the crash. Don't know what it was in the end that sorted it as it had a new motor/switch/stat etc.

That diode was shot on mine too.. but the fan don't work at all, so it's a bit of a double swine, haha.

Keep mine with heaters on full in traffic now.. keeps temps down enough.. can sit for about 10/15mins until it moves like 1 small mark up..

Need the fan working tho.. cus' it gets hot in the carm even with windows open!

well while flushing the system found the problem . followed the thromstat connector from the block to the rad and at the rad end the earth had snapped ! giving me no fan while engine is running :( although the fan would come on with keys out !?! . any way extended the snaped earth and connected it back up and hey presto ive got a cool ride once again.temps stay low and fan kicks in nicely .

If other are have same probs i suggest checking this too as it had just perished away !

I would have been trmpted to atleast put the blowerrs on hot if it ever got much over the 2nd mark, and then if it dodn't go down turn the car off
