I use Sportrac 3's in 185/55 and they're by far the best tyre I've used on a car - I mainly believe though its because its 185 - its just as good to drive back on 185's as it was on 195's and I prefer the progessive breakaway compared to yes yes yes yes Nooooooo on 195, nicer ride too.

I like 195/50 on the Williams. Though 195/50, being a tad shorter than 185/55, will probably have slightly worse ride comfort. IMHO, there's plenty enough chassis feedback on the mk1 clios to handle cornering breakaways with reasonable control on 195/50s. Also, tyre compound plays a part too. For instance, at the same 195 size, Bridgestone S-02 is more progressive than the brain-mashing grip of Falken GRB2s. But downside of softs are they can let go quite dramatically and mostly have lousy usable life span.
