The car wouldn't start last night, when turning over it was making a loud ticking noise. I thought it would be something to do with the starter motor.

I called the AA out today and he said straight away it was the battery. The battery was checked only the other week and was fine? After giving power to the battery he conducted several tests with the voltmeter connected to the battery, as i turned the headlights on, rear heater and cabin blowers the figures dropped on the voltmeter. After further tests he told me it was the alternator?! I had a new alternator and belt fitted in November.

Any suggestions? :cry:

would be worth checking any earthing points in the engine bay mate.

quite allot of ppl have problems with similar effect on the clio's

the earthing points over time seem to become weak giving a bad charge to the electrical system.

ive noticed with my williams lately that it is really slow starting after being left for a while, especailly after been left for the evening.

My friend had similar problem... his ignition switch went wrong. Although he was able to give ignition but the engine didn't start. Here is the reason of his problem:

i had the same sort of prob and turned out 2 b the earth on the gearbox
