Hi guys,

My backbox is going to need replacing soon - after noting at the FCS last year that virtualy every Willy there had a different backbox I was wondering what an original one looked like....

If they are still about - where can you get them fitted? Renault?

Naturally I want to keep 0425 as original as possible now....

Any help/advice would be appreciated! Cheers. :)

yes but they are expensive from what i know.

You can get pattern part but the tailpipe and backbox design arent the same.

Those shots were taken a couple of years ago, but generally it looks about the same now. No snow, no grit and underground parking can do that to any car :)

hmmmm - I was quoted £240 from my local stealer to fit a Renault back-box today! £120 for the part and the rest to fit it!!!! They quoted 75 minutes labour to change a backbox!!!!

Yeah, the original ones need the rear beam lowering to fit.

Was about to say, looks like a pig to fit, Diesel Cat Back system FTW

talkingfish
26-03-2008, 10:09
so what price original then... I have been quoted £300 all into fit a stainless powerflow system from the cat back.... if I went for a subtle tailpipe would it make THAT much difference.....

I recently decided to swap the backbox on my williams because I couldn't be doing with the noise anymore (had a powerflow system fitted).

I went to my local motor factors because I didn't fancy paying Renault prices and I got a choice of 2 backboxes.

The more expensive Timax didn't look anything like the images I had seen of the standard exhaust.

The cheaper exhaust (made by Walker) was £66 and looks identical to the pics of the OEM exhaust in this thread. It has the same shape of silencer, the droopy tailpipe and the flat-spots for a snug fit.

Anyone looking to return to standard but not wanting to pay Renault prices may want to consider one of these...

Do they make an identical centre box as well? If they do, I might be tempted to ship out the centre/back boxes.

When I bought the back box they showed me the catalog drawings and one of the reasons I opted for the Walker was because it looked identical to what I recalled the OEM part to look like, but I can't mind what the centre section looked like.

I've just had a quick look at the Walker on-line catalog but there's nothing listed for the Clio.

I'll take a couple of pics of the back box and post them up at the weekend (it's now on the car) and if I'm passing the motor factors I'll pop in and check out the centre section.

I got a non-genuine backbox before and it was crap, the rear pipe coming out the back just had a bigger metal pipe section welded on the end to make it look like the original rather than actually being part of the exhaust.

Here's a few pics, as promised, of the Walker back-box I bought and fitted to my car.

The pics show it not to be the greatest fit, but please bear in mind that I have fitted this to a pwerflow centre section / cat (this required cutting the centre section down and welding it to the back box). I'm sure the fit could be made perfect if it were fitted to a standard length centre section in the conventional manner.

I haven't had a chance to go back to the motor factors to check out the centre section.

Aye, no bother. It doesn't quite sit central to the bumper cutout but that'll be due to the method of fitting. It doesn't, however, stick out like a one handled wheel-barrow either.

I'll take the pics and post them up tonight if I get the chance.

I got mine AGES ago and have only just got round to getting it fitted (next week)

It would have been put on this week had the car not decided to fail its mot over a caliper and a brake light bulb (amazes me they will not just replace a bulb and class it as a fail - by the way it was working exactly one week ago when I tested them all ready! )

If I do ever get rid of my Williams, I will ship it to you piece by piece!
That way, you will get 100% factory original parts! :D

Hey ask renault and they will quote the part number thats on this middle section!

Daz.
08-04-2008, 17:18
Right dammit I knew I was right lol

Just been to the garage and the part number for the midsection is 7700844370.

Dialogys confirms the part number but shows the older midsection as in the pictures above so looks to me like they're now just lazy and fabricate basic looking ones :D

If I ever end up shipping anything else up your way again Daz I'll chuck it in the box (free) to you or could send separately if you want to pay the postage? (assuming it meets the courier size limit of 120cm - I'd better check after the probs I had last time!). It was only on my car for less than 20k so is in pretty good nick, as you can see in the pic. Then when your current one wears out you can whack this one on for the true original look!
