You can get new panels welded in.
I was quoted around £200 for each arch, but mine isn't bad at all really.
After getting that done use Dinitrol or something similar on the inside of the arches.

Has anyone used that Waxoyl stuff to good effect?
Either that or I was thinking about just hammeriting the inside of the arches and around the surrounding metalwork you can get to - it's not like anyone will see it...

Ooh, also, has anyone got the plastic wings that you can get? How would they attach? Cut the old ones off and bond them in?
yeah i bonded all mine on with a few flushed rivets too

It's a tempting prospect - no rust issues if you can bond them properly and rust-proof the bits where you've cut the metal...
i think rusts inevitable on the mk1, even after work its only a matter of time till it starts coming back.

If you get the arches cut out then new ones welded in with the right rust-proofing there is no reason it should rust anymore than a newer car?

yeah in theory, but theres people who have had that done on here and have had the rust return, seen it mentioned in other posts.
