Thermo housing is leaking, will tighten it if I can but would peeps normally use a sealant?

I normally use instant gasket stuff when re-fitting and would recommend it - don't know if its necessary though tbh.

It seems some folk do and some dont. Not too happy as I just did the damn coolant refil, and its leaking already!

Yea neither have others, but mines leaking :(

Trouble is I find the torx bolts get easily rounded off, as they are shit!

Is it definitely the housing and not the rubber gasket thing round the thermostat itself? Have you replaced it recently?

The housing corroded through and needed replacing, and the thermostat and thermostat seal have been replaced for new ones as well, along with one of the sensors.

Hmm, weird then.

Perhaps you just have the strength of a girl and can't tighten the bolts up properly ;) lol :P

I'm pretty sure it is the housing itself, but I will triple check the pipes when I get home.

Is it only when the engine has been running a while that it leaks?

I had that problem with my old valver and no matter what happend I couldn't sort it till I did a full coolant flush and then everything seemed ok with it.

Well, it has only just been put back together after a major overhaul, all the gaskets including head, new thermo housing, sensors, thermostat, full coolant flush and radiator clean out, inlet cleaning, head skim and all seals, new dizzy and rotor arm, filters, oil etc.

It's just one of two issues I have with the rebuild, the other being an air leak.

Just want it to work now :(

It has not been run really at all, so it is leaking when cold. Will report findings later when I get home. Got half a day at work today.

OK! Found the reason for leaking: I forgot to tighten the sensor plugs after I put it on! DOH!

Easily fixed :D

One problem crossed off.

LoL

Always good to have an easy fix :D even though you feel a bit silly for doing it wrong
