Hi,

My Cat has started to rattle. Was wondering if it was worth considering a de-cat? what are the benefits? and is it going to do any damage to my standard setup?

Cheers.

de-cat will do the following:

- make it louder
- free up a few horses
- help the engine rev more freely depending on exhaust
- make the car feel 'punchier'

downsides are it will fail emissions tests for MOT so you will need a cat anyway to pass, can be loud depending on exhaust, needs to be specific to your model so the flanges fit.

personally i would get one as they are cheap and give good benefits, then start saving for a generic cat specific to your model and then buy it close to MOT time or simply borrow one from a fellow member

You will lose low down torque with a decat but gain some at the top end, I found this frustrating so put a cat back on soon after, but some people like decats tho....

Definately loses you low down torque, its quite annoying actually.

what about a sports cat - do you loose low down torque with one of these too????

this is an area of much discussion, lots of people have found that airflow is not much better with a sports cat over that of a normal one, and others have shown that the emissions still fail etc... so its a personal choice, sports cats are expensive too..... personally i would either get a new cat, or simply go with the decat as it gives better all around performance for everyday driving, motorway, longer drives etc... and then borrow a cat for MOT time
