View Full Version : car tax rises
as from tomorrow
Engine size (cc) 6 months rate 12 months rate
Not over 1549 £66.00 £120.00
Over 1549 £101.75 (up £2.75) £185.00 (up £5.00)
bastards
It never ceases to amaze me how they get away with ****ing the little guy in the arse, whilst the real polluters get away with it.
It amazes me more that we put up with it!
:( beyond a joke :(
but think our selves lucky given 6 months grace to 2p per litre on fuel
What is a joke is that in the highest bracket its gone up to £440 and by 2010 will be £950 as ive just seen on the news
Not that i'll ever have a car in that bracket and i suppose theyre preying on them partly because they know it can be afforded if those people are adament they want to drive those types of cars. I wish it was based on mileage as there are people who have second cars that only come out in the dry/ at weekends etc and do naff all miles that are in high tax brackets, at the same time theres fleets of tdi cars doing 40k a year, you tell me which pollutes more on average in a year!! You can get limited miles insurance so why not tax

The answer to the tax issue is to buy an older car!
We're unlikely to ever get into this stupid emissions-based system, and if you went older, like classic old, you can get tax exemption too.
I remember someone on talkaudio worked out that running their 6 or 7 litre V8 yanktank actually worked out marginally cheaper than buying a new focus and watching it depreciate while doing about 30mpg more lol
